Hi Guys,

I managed to pck up a boss 290 from a super-pursuit wreck for a pretty good price, and want to stick it into an xc.

ive got engine, wiring looms, bem, ecu all the stuff really, but just wanted to know if any of you guys can give me some advice on whether or not to keep the efi setup or to go a carby and dizzy setup ??

also - if i was to use the computer to manage the engine, would i need other parts to make things work, e.g radio/screen,

if i can put the ecu in to run the engine, then i will, as long as i dont have to majorly re-wire a heap of stuff.

Thank guys,

Meat.

You can buy from msd a kit to run the ignition, and pretty sure you can buy a carby manifold for them too now, would be awesome to see

yeah i thought it would be possible for a carby manifold and dizzy setup to be done.

but a few ppl have given me the s**t saying that its going backwards, and that i will kill the engine, etc etc.

really, it should run fine without the ecu shouldnt it ??

BluePower Motorsport have put one into a XY/XW, might pay to talk with them.

If you want to keep the injected setup, I believe the ECU's can be reprogrammed to NOT require all the security features. A talk to CAPA may help here.

attached is photos of my brother in laws xa coupe with 260kw. he used wiring from ba modified and cappa tuner. the reason he used cappa tuner is because the ecu went into limp mode due to being out of auto and he is running 5 spd. car is street registered and is running like clockwork.

thats awesome !

looks tight as hell in the engine bay though, lol

did he have to modify the inner guards ? or change suspension ?

im guessing some custom headers were made to fit for it ?

i expect to have to get custom extractors made for my setup, but that dont worry me.

the 290 is out of a super pursuit, which are all manuals to my knowledge, so possibly wont need the capa tune for that aspect of it....

cheers for the advice so far guys !

Super Pursuits are available in auto or manual, depending the the model, it could've been a 4A, 6A, 5M or 6M.

It looks about as tight as it does in a B series bay.

Must go like a cut snake, 260KW, 500NM and what 1300KG?

you can just slide your fingers between heads and shock towers.
there was no mods to towers. the only mod is a slight recess to fit battery.
the original headers from xr8 were modified by cutting and modifying pipes to clear towers. the suspesion is standard xagt renewed.
this is proto type with a view to building business from it.
from a rusty body this has been rebuilt using fabricated steel panels and apart from paintwork has been totally engineered by the himself.

BPT in wangara can reflash the PCM to allow it's use standalone. You can get carby and distributor stuff but it's certainly a backward step. I take it the carb idea was just in case you couldn't use the EFI anyway?
