im just wondering if anyone knows the deal with the boss v8's when starting em. mines series 1 GT n somtimes when i kick it over, particularly when its cold it'll tap for a couple seconds before the oil gets pumping. i asked ford about it n they reckon its coz of the thin oil used and not to worry bout it. is this true or should i be taking up whats left of my warranty? also when starting, around 3 times out of 10 itll makes this other suctiony type noise, which it hasnt done until this year. it just doesnt sound healthy. any1 know, or heard of what could be causing it?

thin oil will cause the tapping, the other one you should get checked out.

In any case report back when you find out/fix whatever it is.

Having said that, what oil are you running?

The oil cap recommends Castrol Edge 0W-40 on my GT-P. But it's relatively new (06 model), I believe earlier on they were recommending an even thinner oil.

Does it tap or rattle? timing chain tensioners were a problem in the BA's. From dead cold they will rattle on startup.

Ive been using Castrol Formula R 0W-40 on my 260, doesnt seem to phase it a bit, but think i will be changing to a 10w-30 later on.

My FPV Pursuit has that tapping on start up too, and I was told the same thing, But it took me ages to hear it tap and I don't know why, but now I know its there I hear it all the time, but it doesn't seem to do it that much when its warm. But let us know what the other problem is mate, then we can get ours checked out too. :D

GT's have always been 0W40 IIRC..
XR8's have a book spec of 10w/30 however ford changed the spec to 15w40 in mid 2004 and backdated it to cover all XR8's...

also the suction noise is likely to be a vaccuum line split etc..
