G'day guys,

Okay I've made the complete decision that I'm getting a different car,
I'm looking at the v8 pathway in particular.

I love the look of the ef el fairmont ghias and xr8's, I don't really like the fairlanes of that era and I hate the "au" shape all together.

The ba, bf shape is pretty good all together, and the fg xr8's are sexy aswell.

I want to hear you guys opinions on what pathway I should take, I have in my mind I don't want a car that Everyman and his dog has aswell! Sorry about the rambling!!
Cheers:)

Go and actually drive the AU, its leaps ahead of the E series, I was in the exact same position, then I drove an AU, so much of a better vehicle, go and have a look at an AU Fairmont. Series 3 would be the pick of the bunch.

Dont matter what you buy, as soon as you give the seller the cash you'll see the same car on every set of lights. Just happens that way. Buy what you want and then make it as a one off by doing what you want to it.

Dont waste your time on an E series.
Their 5.0 is a joke.
Look past the love it or loathe it shape of the AU and drive one.
Awesome car.
Because people dont dig the shape you wont have a car like every man and his dog.

B Series make me hard!

:)

Go for a BA/F XR8 or stretch to a FG if in your budget.

Get an E-series and put a 400+ inch windsor in it then no-one will know what you drive because you'll never be anywhere long enough for them to see it

How do you figure that out unless you buy an already customized car? If you buy an already customized car, its not ever exactly what you want and you have to rely on the previous owner's skills and the tradesmen he/she has decided to use.

No, what im sasying is that it is possible to buy a car that isnt so common that you constantly see others - the flip side of this is that they are harder to find parts for and can cost more in maintenance. If he looks at cars that have been imported he will find something that isnt common.

Ie mustang thunderbird etc etc.

It's a matter of preference.....

Personally I can't stand the driving experience in any of the AU's. I always found the steering too light and the wheel is so big it might as well be off a paddle steamer!! IMO anyway!!

On the flip side, I absolutely loved the way the EBII and ED XR's drove, particularly with the manual box and Momo wheel, and the EF and EL XR's were great too.

I agree the Windsor in the E series (apart from the ELII XR8) was a boat anchor, but GT40's and Explorer manifold can be had fairly cheaply these days, which with a tune are seeing easy 230's at the fly.

The biggest problem you'll have is finding a good one of any of the older cars..... I scour the classifieds regularly looking for a good E series Ticky V8 to have as a play thing and just can't find one worth the money or the effort to me...... I'll just keep looking I guess!! :-)

Thats a good point. Yes a costly preference like you have stated and you almost always will not have the only one in Australia but its an excellent point at that. I stand corrected.
My dream car: 67 Z28 SS- not on every street light but they are around. Your post is correct and I was not completely correct in my statement.

To the OP, I know you have stated you dont like the Fairlanes ( I think of the E series era) and you hate the Au shape ( I do too), but would you consider an AU Fairlane? I remember on here one that was black and an 8, mate I hate the Au shape with a passion but that black Au Fairlane was sex on wheels.
I know I have brought together both the things your not after, just a thought

Ive searched high and low in the Fairlane and LTD thread as I was sure it was there....... My eyes are saw and I aint even put a dent in the 95 pages. Anyone know the one I am talking about? I am sure it was black, dropped on its a** maybe with Simmons. REALLY well done. Last time I saw it was about 3 years ago, so the bloke might not even be a member anymore

Okay so this week I've had a look at 2 eseries cars,
An EL XR8 (red) which was crap, it be better off at the wreckers and an
EL Fairmont Ghia, awesome condition in that silver colour but had a few unusual problems. Both owns of these cars just wanted them gone and love talking s##t.

Anyone know of any ef els in Melbourne which are fairmonts or xr8s which are in good condition, not just rubbish.

I'm loving the feedback so please keep it coming, I'm just keeping an eye out for eseries but if I have no luck I'm probably going to go the ba, bf or fg line.

Cheers
