I was thinking about removing teh EFI on my 5 Litre Winsdor motor and turning it into a carby setup. Other option is pissing the engine off and dropping an engine in already with a carby setup. I'm after some advicewfrom anyone who has converted their EFi to carby or anyone who knows a little on the subject on an major unexpected problems they faced and how their car currently runs.
Thanks

to actualy make the engine run, all you need is a carby, a manifold and a dizzy.

i'd be using a holley 600vac you'll get away with a 650dp if you have a manual trans, and that id use a 650 HP STREET
an edelbrock RPM airgap manifold P.N. 7521
and msd dizzy. with or without a CDI

you can get cheaper electronic dizzys for them but make sure you buy a decent one, nardek do a nice one with bocsh module and pickup.

as to it effecting the rest of the car, well thats up to some one els to answer

You can just change the intake and use the stock TFI distributor with a programmable ignition kit from the likes of Jaycar. I did just that with my cleveland and then took it off when I put the EFI on it.
Or you can leave the EEC to control the ignition if you use a carb bonnet and let it breathe through the MAF.

learn something everyday. so i guess you could use a blow through adapter from the likes of naparts and run the stock airbox and maf location.

Why go to a carby when EFI will give you better all round performance?

Oh yeah, it won't be emissions compliant for that model and therefore, road legal...

The car is a project and not a daily. I want something a bit different, something that you don't see all too often. If I wanted better performance I wouldn't have bought a 5 litre EL. There is nothing that speaks tough then a heavily worked lumpy carby engine, it doesn't have to be quick, just a tough streeter.

If it's just to be "different" then don't do it!
If you want to be different I have V10 you can use.

Be aware you will still need a TPS signal for the Auto to work

Last night i was flipping through a friends street commodores magazine and i seen an interesting VR with air filter through the bonnet, which is the old school look im after. I read on and realised that it wasn't Carby, but had a 100cfm Fuel injection throttle body sitting atop a harrop engineering single plane manifold. The manifold was match-ported and polished with a custom adaptor plate allowing the mating of the manifold and throttle body. I though maybe this may be a more practical concept rather then convert to carby as that way i can still keep my EFI but get the old school look. One problem i can see is the MAF? has anyone seen this done on EFI Winsdor?

you can delete the maf.. need to be running aftermarket ecu tho.. tuned in alpha-n
thats what im running on mine (8 throttle body setup) however if you can still include the maf it will make tuning much more simple..
