If gaskets are new there is a coating on them..
Both block and head surfaces need to be dead smooth...
I would torque to engine specs..
The Windsor guys who use them torque to 85 / 80 ...
1/2 inch bolts / studs 100...
check that the Cometic rivets holding gasket together isn't between head and block ??
If so drill rivet out...
