this xe of mine has a 302 with 600 holley and is standard, now apart from driving it home overheating, pissing and f@rt when i bought it, i havent been able to drive it yet and im about to blow up,
it came with a quadrajet on it, which was rebuilt by the last owner if you can call it rebuilt, float was bent up to s**t and it was leaking fuel everywhere, bought a 600 vac sec holley with adaptor plate for 250, was told it was fine to put str8 on, did that, p****d fuel everywhere, got a rebuild kit, another 80 bucks, rebuilt it, still leaks a bit of fuel, and wont run, apart from taking to the car with a bat can anyone tell me where to get this carb looked at that wont charge me 300 for a rebuild like some places i have been to? i just want my car running, i have had it a couple months now and it hasnt even left my driveway :(
thanks for listening to my whinge

are you sure its the carb
wheres the fuel leak
are there any vacuum leaks
is it fitted correctly
fuel pressure ok
does accelerator pump work
does it idle
does it sort of stay alive
does it go and stay alive
does it stay alive if someone puts fuel in it by hand - be very careful doing this , and if your in doubt do not do it

all a rebuild is , is clearing out all pasages , gaskets , power valves ,seats, float levels , checking that shaft bores are ok and surfaces are flat- were these done right

carb was put together by me and i was meticulous, fuel is leaking from beneath the carb where it bolts to adapter plate, then it stopped, the car now seems to run, wont idle by itself, and is running rough,
Cheers

take a look down the throats of the carby with the engine idleing.... is there any excess fuel leaking in there?

are the fuel bowls centre or side hung float type?

it sounds like you rebuilt it properly
apart from the leak(which you said stopped)
id guess vacuum leak- was the base flat,
tightening carb down too hard bends corners
check where the vacuum hoses go

I will have a play with it tomorrow and let you all know how your input turned out, when i tightened it i did it finger tight then about half a turn after that with the ratchet, i think your right about vacuum, question though, there are 2 vacuum nooks on the carb, one coming out of the base plate and one coming out of the side of the carb, should any of these be on the vacuum advance on the dizzy or just have vacuum from the manifold?
ta,

not too sure about hosing as i havnt looked for a while
you should only feel vacuum in the one going to dissy when your a fair bit off idle ,
all others should be blocked if not used for anything
block the ones coming from under the carb to tappet covers, air filter or what ever and see how it idles- set the idle high (1500) to make it easier

Distributor vacuum advance line comes from the side of the carby near the idle mixture adjustment screw other vacuum lines should be blocked off. :D
