Depends what you mean from a "build"

Is it just a short block or a long motor with some decent heads.

Does that also include a new cam, new timing chain and sprockets and timing cover too?

I was looking at doing my own 331 short motor and it was going to cost no more than $3000 including a new gasket set. Thats with eagle stuff with i beams and cast crank, forgies etc.

Certainly helps if you are hands on and can put motors together. It was going to cost me about $400 for a .030" rebore and acid bath and I was going to do the grinding of the block to clear the rotating assembly. My machinist also gets stuff from summit and warned me to stay away from the scat stuff as it's chinese as well.

Thats good prices.
I have just had the roller 351 block acid dipped, decked, honed and the crank linished as well as having the heads decked and the bill came in at $550, so with a bore thats not to bad.

Machining is cheap for you guys by the sounds of it, i just got prices and they are
280 bore and hone
deck heads or block 70 per bank
grind crank 220
Acid dip-not sure forgot to ask(about 70-80 i think)
50 to fit pistons to rods or to fit cam bearings

Lucky for me my block is ok and i only need to get my crank ground and heads skimmed :D
I got other prices and some were heaps more :(

I got a stupid question, when you purchase for example an eagle stroker kit is it ready to be bolted in or does it need machining and balancing?

You need to prep the block first. You should not have to balance and machine the rotating assembly unless it is pro comp gear.

I would recommend getting it balanced, need your harmonic balancer and Flywheel/Flexplate at the same time. Is good insurance to ensure everything is matched.

Balance it for sure... You don't know what balance the crank was forged at ??
Being an external balanced engine...

it will work out about 2 grand for full machining, dummy assemble etc if you strip down the engine and give them the parts. HOWEVER, you dont have to get the engine balanced or have a girlde kit. This is up to you, though i recommend it. To fit a girdle kit, you must bore the tunnel which costs at least $500 + another 200 for the girlde. If your running street and not going to extreme with a stroker then you dont have to do this, thats an easy $700 off.

Good for the street, do as i mention above minus the girdle kit and buy a complete stroker kit from SCAT. There cast crank 347 i beam series are rated to 500hp and id opt for that. Eagle in dandenong want $1600 aus for the same SCAT kit. These retail $800 us. There will eb a few other parts ul need, like gaskets, oil pump etc. But you can get away with a good basic stroker for under 3k. Do some research, the more you can do yourself the more you will save.

Mosy Sydney engine builders like BK race engines, Westend & Ned aka Solo Hercules will charge 3k for complete machining of the block and assemble and these prices are there standard rate, unless u know them.
