hey guys need a custom tune on my au xr8 and someone who knows what they're doing? ive been using an xcal 1 got it when they first came out, had it custom tuned a yr or so ago and they've done a s**t job. Should i get an xcal 3 will it make any difference except for not having to plug in out when on the dyno.
cheers guys

Hi iv owned an sct x3 tuner (herrod motor sports, capa etc) and the things a GIANT peice of RUBBISH.

Dont wast your money. unless you have a well supported vehicle such as a ba xr8 or newer.

User adjustable options are for AU v8's ... IDLE speed and speedlimiter.

it can read trouble codes, but cannot data-log the au v8.

the 98 octane tune is crap, there too much advance top end causing pinging big time.

there are more adjustable features on a j3 chip then this piece of crap.

they should have sold it for $100 thats all its worth to me, a dtc reader.

if you do get a flash tuner get the basic basic BASIC cheap a** one as feature wise it'll be no different being you cannot adjust anything but idle and speed-limiter and is useless as a data-logger.

Ah, lol well there ya go, Just dont go and think its well developed yet for the AU.

i'll be happy if they can give me a proper tune.

but disappointing that none of the side selling point of user adjustable features do not apply.

if knowing this i would have gone J3 as it has more adjustable features.

I suggest inquire before buying.....

or go to someone whos paid 4grand for sct's tuning program.

but as for self tuning thats a j3 only option that i can see.

** there might be other options liker sniper... maybe**

keep us up to date how you go, i'll post back if theres any improvement for the au flash tuning side. but i didnt get what i thought i was buying :-(

A Chiptorque chip can only be tuned by Chiptorque, which is the downfall for them. The TI Performance J3 can be DIY Tuned, or pro tuned on a dyno with the right software and a burner.

looking at this thread what are you talking about ??? anyone that has the SCT program can tune AU & onwards & all of the statigies that are needed are there !! I've been tuning AU 's for 4 years now from std, to engines with bigger heads & cams !!!.... unfortunatly whats happen with X1 was bound to happen no thanks to the previous distribitor but thats got nothing to do with the ability to get the car tuned.........

I am referring to the flash tuner itself not a dyno tuner/person/shop.

In herrods OWN words i have now

this explains it all.

"If you were supplied with just generic tunes, its not the way to go on an AU falcon."

"Once it is custom tuned on a dyno, you will see if it needs things like plugs & leads, etc from the base run."

"There is a whole lot more in purchasing a tune box, and expecting a generic tune to be spot on the mark."

"Regards,

A generic tune is never going to be right. Custom tunes are the only way to go.

So im just going to Adjust what there X3 add should be really saying.

http://www.herrodmotorsport.com.au/SCTF ... fault.aspx

"Unlocking the true power potential of your AU, BA, BF & FG Falcon & Territory, is now literally the press of a button away utilising the SCT X3 Power Flash Device."
- to call your local dyno tuner as our generic tunes do not unlock potential just problems.

"SCT's Power Flash Device can instantly add more power, more torque and even increase your vehicle's fuel economy."
- Provided you have a good dyno tuner near by thats support sct x3.

"The NEW X3 Power Flash even comes with user adjustable features and on-device high speed datalogging and monitoring."
- Which is subject to availability on each vehicle not that we'll leave you to find out which ones ok?

"Now you can data log your all of your vehicles PCM parameters and view them on your Windows based computer using SCT's Live Link Software."
- unless your unlucky enough to own and AU then hey best of luck cause it crashes.

last line says it all

For the optimum in performance, we highly recommend having your vehicle custom tuned by an Authorised Herrod/SCT Tuner. This will ensure you get the very best out of your vehicle.

because our generic tunes are way over the safe limits and will cause harm.

then why even bother offer them. to get sales to those whom like me have no access to a dyno tuner and buys this USELESS thing in hopes it can make a difference in there cars tune.

***EDIT***
not completely useless if you have access to a dyno and cash left over after buying this expensive tuning device oh and it reads DTC's

thanks brad sounds like i'll have to.

Au xr8 2 are you referring as a dyno tuner or on the device x3 or thru there program?

Because all i can do is bump the idle up and the speed limiter.

and there going to adjust to tune so thats good news.
