I assume if coolant is leaking out of the timing cover seal then ive got leakage through the timing cover its self? It wouldnt be coming from anywhere else? Seems to be coming out of both sides.
Water pump is only a few months old, at the time I looked at the inside of the timing cover and it was pitted, but looked ok.
Dont really mind doing it, but im hoping I can get one shipped in before the new year.

This is my EL XR8 obviously.

by timing cover seal do you mean the front main seal? or the block/timing case gasket?

the block/timing case gasket can leak up around the two water passages, had this happen on my ELXR8.

you say the timing case was pitted last time ya looked, could well have worn a small pin hole through the case.

if it is a case failure its going to be a fun job, K frame out so you can drop the sump and clean all the whipped cream out. hell that brings back some bad memories

any coolant in the oil?

There is no water in the oil from what I can tell.
Hopefully it could be just the timing case to block gasket, but ill replace the cover anyway.

You can get new timing covers from the US from about USD$50.
You have to get the 1994/95 Mustang one, as it was the same spec as the EF-EL engine.
EB-ED ran the earlier type, and AUs ran the Explorer ones.

If anyone is interested I might buy a few, as local prices are a joke in comparison. They only take overseas orders on the phone, so ill ring them tomorrow.

Actually maybe you're right? EB/ED and EF/EL V8 water pumps are the same arnt they? Which would mean the timing cover is the same. (since Ford changed both, and are not interchangable)
I know that earlier Ford 5.0 ones are different, and it was only the 94/95 Mustangs 5.0s that were the same.

i always thought the 86-93 muzzy still used v belts not serpentine, so had a standard rotation water pump and timing cover to match.

i've got an EB-ED timing cover laying around, i will take a pic if i remember, unless someone else can confirm before i do

I'd be interested too, if it will fit EF 5.0. Did these motors run the same serpentine layout, just with thermos for the EF-EL?

Try this link:

I need one also if it will work, and wouldnt mind a set of new bolts to go with it either.

Probably best to replace the bolts with studs to save the bolts breaking of in the block at a later date.

The water pump in the link I posted looks to have different water pump outlet pipe locations at the top too, not sure if it would be OK.

'86-'93 stangs use a serpentine setup but they use the same "long nose" pump and cover that's used on the F-series. These timing covers and pumps do not have a recess for the pump impellor like the '94-'95 stang or any 5.0 Falcon.

VPW sell the ARP timing cover and water pump bolt kit for about $50, and they are stainless.

i dunno what the story with them is, i bought one and half of the bolts don't fit.
i think they only suit early model timing covers.
