Ford waits for the plug and play computer to tell em whats wrong. They have no idea and have lost the art of diagnosis.
Take it to a real mechanic. Replace fuel filter and ask them to check for irregular fuel pressure as this will not always show in fault codes on the computer.

idle surging can be caused by a selector switch being a bit on its way out, sending info to the ecu telling it is in gear out of gear in gear etc.

pcv pipes are comin to colapse uner manifold vacume, there has since been a new design pipe. this can cause some running rough issues. also tps is a common problem.

Haha ford are a useless bunch. I had issues with my idle a while back, revs kept going up and down and stalling, ford couldnt work it out and wanted to spend more time on it. Turned out to just be a dirty throttlebody which i fixed in 2min

Oxygen Sensors are a big problem with these cars also, get them checked out.

Redrattler - Mine would idle normal then just drop til it sounded like it was about to stall then it would rev above idle for a bit then settle down, everynow and then it would just stall at the lights. o2's are a problem too, just had mine changed and fixed up my idle now.

Hey craig, bout time you got on here :P

here is exactly what mine does. my car will be sitting there idling fine, all of a sudden it will start surging from close to stalling, to high revs (more than likely trying to compensite for low revs). and no one can find anything. even if it was an o2 ford would not want to replace it under warranty.. anyone know a good line of action????
