Hi guys, I am hoping some of you can help me with a problem that has come up with my EB 5.0.
If I drive on very light throttle it is fine and drives well but if I try 1/2 or more it backfires thru the air box and seems to struggle to get over 3000rpm. I have replaced the spark plugs and leads, fuel filter and also the fuel pump as we thought it was starving for fuel because as soon as you use less throttle it drives ok.
It is petrol only no gas btw.
Well if you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it :)

Take a look at the MAF... it may be dirty or the wire element could be damaged.

I'll second that. Sounds like typical sypmtoms of a faulty MAF.

Had what sounds like your problem. Was the coil. Ran ok at slow speed when not under load. Giveaway hard to start when cold.

Thank you for the replies guys, I searched on MAF cleaning and tried it but it made no difference so I picked one up for $40 and tried it with no luck :?
I have done some searching thru the forums and was thinking about the TPS setting.......Would this cause this kind of error?
I will have a look at the coil tomorrow, I should have one laying around so might try to swap it out.

Thanks again for all the help.

sounds like a problem i used to have with a 351clevo.
put around town fine, but as soon as you booted it it would backfire in the higher rev ranges.

Funny as watching the brand new VN/VP SS drivers draging me at the lights s**t themselves thinking it was there car - LOL

in the end decided to sell the car so i took the After market manifold and carby off and replaced it with a stock items, re-sealed the replacement and the problem stopped. Talked to a few mechanics they suggested there was a small leak somewhere round the inlet manifold causing it to backfire.

you might want to run some soapy water around/between the inlet area joins and see if there are any leaks.

It still sounds a lot like a fuel pressure/ flow issue to me because my 5.0 had the same problem under load.

After replacing most of the parts xgdude has myself, I ended up replacing the little plastic coupling which attaches the fuel pump outlet directly to the line, inside the tank. It was wasn't holding the fuel pressure and squirting it back into the tank. I swapped it out- no more problems.

Cost: about 3 bucks from Ford.:)

I do remember the fitting you are talking about it is a small plastic tube that connects the pump to the sender housing, I can get one tomorrow as well. For the price of it and that it is so easy to change it is worth a try.

Thought i mite just ask, but you have checked timing with a timing light? that can cause defferent probs through the rev range!

I know the Air flow meter wont cause much problem if you unplug it and drive the car, i had mine disconeted on the ef for days and didnt notice it lol, but maybe the EECIV needs it more?

Well V8 Ghia Mike was on the money, after I replaced the fuel pump it went a little better so when I read what he said it got me thinking. I called ford and it is no longer stocked so I replaced it with a small peice of hose and 2 clamps and what do you know :D FIXED!

Thanks for all the replies guys, I dont post all that much but have used the forum for tech info and help a number of times and am grateful for all the info.

Mick
