Firing order on 91 v8 is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 according to Ellery's manual

I had a NC fairlane engine which was 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Ford had told me it was 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 but after much swearing and pulling of hair I found ford had given me the wrong firing order. You may need to pull the rocker covers to be sure.

Did you buy that car new? Because that is extremely unusual!
The only roller cammed 5.0's that had this old firing order were Non-Ho speed density engines which were not used in Australian cars at all.

I purchased the engine from a wrecker for a project and it was complete with EEC. The number's on the engine and the EEC were both for a NC and I have no idea of its history. So I dont know, but that is just how it was. Roller cam and all!

351 windsor had firing order 13726548 and 289 302 windsors had 15426378. you can run a 351w cam in a 302 if you change your 302 firing order. clevelands are all 13726548 also

You would have had to change the injector firing order for that to run. Do you remember the catch code on the EEC?
You can't just switch cams on sequential EFI engines without changing the injector firing order.

1DHA if I think. I can send you a copy of the bin if you want. It ran very well and idled smoothly so if the injector firing order was incorrect it didnt show. Couldnt tell you if the cam was original or not. It definately had stock roller lifters with stock ford heads and rockers.

With the firing order that ford provided it wouldnt run. After I pulled the timing cover off to check the timing, I was almost convinced there was a bottom end problem. But all comps were good which made me think it was timing. By chance I noticed the valve opening didnt match the firing order. Long story short it wasnt 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.

Maybe the cam had been changed.

Just my bad luck?

Hmm ok. Yes I'd be interested to see the bin file.
So were the ignition leads still in place?
