I am getting tired of the amount of oil this manifold sucks up thru the PCV & sits in the upper waiting to get sucked into the inlet ports.
I summise it happens when you accelerate hard the oil in the valley runs to the rear. No problem here as there is little or no vacuum. However when you let your foot off - the vacuum returns & with the oil being trapped in the rear of the valley with that stupid baffle - it gets sucked up thru the PCV etc etc.
Needless to say that any oil entering the combustion chamber screws with O2 sensors & makes a mess of your tune.
I had previously tried a coalecsing filter (like a compressor filter) but it was more of a restriction.
Maybe there is a way of modifying the rear baffle so the oil doesnt get trapped.
Or block the rear PCV recess all together & fit a PCV in each of the rocker covers.

Has anyone found a fix?

Richie.

Same deal here, I just thought it was my motor being tired. Have tried a catch can, but still to no avail. Keep me updated. Although i run an RPM11

I got sick of the oil and closed pcv setup. Got rid of the pcv system to the intake. Put bung plugs in the intake holes. Breather where the pcv use to be. And new rocker covers with breathers.

With stock rocker covers, the filler cap use to foul on the intake anyway and I always had to take the intake side piece off just to do an oil change so it all worked out well lol.

Block up the manifold one and run an old style PCV from on of the rocker cover?

Had same issue with 347 stroker. After oil caked up inside intake manifold the car ran like s**t when hot and under load it pinged it's nuts off. Put a catch can on recently and after it cleared it's throat a bit the problem is gone! :D Runs so much better now.

So it DOES work. And it's a relatively cheap mod.

Yep,
I actually made & fitted a much larger oil splash shield at the back of the lower. It did make some difference but it is certainly the atomised oil that is being picked up.
At the end of the day I stuck in a catch can - will see how goes.
I got a hold of a billet oil breather/separator that BPT sell for the 5.4's ( GenIII uses them as well). I think these go into the rocker cover. The thing isnt cheap ($260) but worth the experiment. Herrods also sell them.
Will modify it to take pcv & mount the whole thing where the pcv sits in the lower.
The thought being that the oil mist/vapour will trap in the filter & just drain back down the hole into the valley. No need to empty a catch can.

Do I need to use the Ford PCV or can I use a Speedflow spring loaded check valve ( may have to adjust spring tension )?
Any thoughts?

Richie

I raised PCV with 120mm alloy tube and fitted silicon on PCV ..
If your having issues ?? I would add another breather on other side rocker cover via catch can...
Keeping PCV helps keep oil clean and keeps condensation out..
Its a sign there isn't enough ventilation and pcv is overworking..
Check that oil is at correct level??
Too full can lead to these issues..
Check timing ? Or in hot weather, try water injection..

I raised the PCV with a 100mm piece of PVC that was flared on one end.Put a breather in the rocker cover opposite the oil filler tube and put a restictor in the hose that sucks air through the PCV.Problem solved.Hope this helps. :D

Yep, looks like I need to extend pcv tube. Does your breather go to a catch can or filtered to outside air/

Richie.

I origionally had a catch can conected to the PCV hose with no breather on the oposite rocker cover.Got sick of emptying the catch can.The breather I used was one from supercheap and it isnt connected to a catch can.Cheers.

Going to weld a couple -10 fittings to the rocker covers & run the hoses back to the top of the airbox. This should help with the ventilation issue whilst maintaining a closed system.
Then will tackle the pcv end of things.

Richie.

That will work fine.I would still recomend a restrictor in the PCV hose as well.Trial and error will see how much restiction you will need.Cheers Grant.
