my drive belt is worn, starting to fray on the inside and a small piece of belt broken off on the frayed side.

Is this just normal wear and tear? everything looks straight by eye , the power steering pump whines when it is cold i guess it ready for replacement but would that affect the belt?

I have a new belt but don't know how to get the old one off.

your advice is much appreciated, thanks

there is a small square hole on the tensioner that ya put a rachet extension bar in (3/8 drive i think) and turn clockwise. this will take tension off the belt so you can replace it

Replace it now. If it fails, you will be stranded!!!!

Pretty much all V8 p/s pumps are noisy...

Removal of belt as per millard's comments. If you have any diffculty, get a mate to work the tensioner whilst you maneuver the belt into position.

Call ford and ask for the belt length... then go somewhere else to buy it for half the price lol.
