hey all, after a long drive I noticed the horrible smell of coolant leaking onto extractors- after an awful time under a hot engine bay I discovered it was the inlet hose for the gas converter that was corroded at the t pipe just behind upper inlet.

This was all ok, disconnect heater tap hose bring coolant hose above upper manifold and cut off and replace.

All was fine until today and I smelled that familiar smell again!!!!
This time its the hose (small one) from the upper manifold- and appears to end down at the lower manifold- which from what i can make out needs to have the upper manifold removed to access screw clamp my hands nor my two year olds hands would have no hope of fitting! BOTH ends are slightly leaking!!

Being a jungle of tubes behind the old HO I think I may as well replace all of them - but would t know where to start- and with nanna just passing on, and a recent house move well I just don't have the patience! !
All tubes are full of rust grit too, as the previous owner ran the engine on a diet of tap water!!!

Should I do anything else while I get it done (ie: save for some gt40p's and exploer upper/lower as I am guessing the head/ manifold water jackets will be much the same as internals of hoses!!!

Maybe I should adopt the phrase of "dont fix it if it aint broke"

if so how much should i expect to pay to get all hoses at back done??
do the hoses come as a pack?

cheers

The little hose you refer to, does that go to the back of the TB, if so, it can be just run from manifold to manifold, it is a heater for cold weather and stops the TB freezing. They must be brought individually as far as i know.

From memory, i used a small socket, bout 4 or 5mm and undid it that way. But i would suggest you remove the upper, then you can just run it to the other side of the manifold. It isnt that hard to remove the upper, althought the last bolt at the back can be a pain due to the firewall being in the way. Goodluck

EGR hose. Can even block it off if you want. IF you have small asian hands like me it's fine to get in there without removing upper.

i still cant work a way behind the upper manifold to take off that egr hose at the bottem where it is split...i think i am going to have to take off the upper, may as well change them all.

any pointers? I have never attempted to even remotely take apart a windsor...

I am guessing i need a torque wrench for bolt torques for upper to lower?

once i got it started was done in 10 mins :D

but brett as u say u just bypassed it?
can u explain a little please
i thought it would have been needed
my car was going through a bit of coolant with that hose split so glad its all done now

can it be simply blocked?

mines fixed now so not worried but it may help out others in the future

cheers folks

With the upper off, you will see where it goes to. What i mean is that the is 2 inputs at the back of the EGR, so to bypass it, i went from the manifold to the manifold, instead of manifold to EGR, then EGR to manifold, if you can understand what i mean.
As for a torque wrench, not necessary, just nip them up, then 1/4 extra turn and they are done. Be careful with the hose at the base of the rear of the upper that goes to the PCV, this can cause issues if it doesnt come out cleanly from the lower.
Cheers and good luck
Brett
