Help! When i start my XR8 it runs perfectly for about 1 min and then starts popping and banging out of the zorst and i lose massive power for about 1 min then goes fine again. Could it be the oxygen sensor? I took the spark plug out and it looked a bit white (lean)

My fairmont ghia is doing the same thing, has been back to ford about 20 times and they have no idea

Basically just when its starting, no matter what the ambient temp it will stall unless you rev it to keep it going for a few mins

My EL2 XR8 just started doing a very similar thing this weekend. When I first start the car it won't idle and even if I put my foot into it a bit to hold the revs up it still coughs and splutters and throws out heaps of black smoke out the back. Keeps this up until the temp gauge gets into the normal range and it runs and starts fine from then on. It happens whether it is hot or cold outside, morning or afternoon. It has only really seemed to have started since I got it serviced and ford replaced the thermostat and thermostat housings. Would this have anything to do with it? Anyone got any ideas?
