If you have a diagnostic computer then yes, it might point you in the right direction.
There are always so many things that could be wrong and sometimes its hard to diagnose without seeing / hearing the problem.
I'm just throwing these out here but it could be a fueling issue of some sort, even a fuel pump.
By rough, perhaps something a little more uncommon but known - dodgy harmonic balancer?
Leads / plugs? :?

i can give it a boot full and runs fuking nice... there is not noise coming from engine just seems to feel like a slight shutter then when in R or D is drops heaps in revs likes its about to stall then i could put it in park and it will rev up to about 1000rpm hell weird

Maybe when you boot it, the fueling becomes richer and may cover up any fuel / air mixture problem felt down low.
To me, I guess I'd suspect the fuel delivery such as the fuel pump. If the fuel filter is definitely okay, I'd be checking the dizzy, TFI module, leads & plugs - plus the MAF.
Could even be the injectors. :o

Why not just raise the idle?
500rpm in gear is way too low, as long as the trans isnt smashing into gear and holding revs(it will do if the idle is set too high)the higher the better basically.
try it and i guanrantee it will make the car run better :D
Whats the worst that can happen
What rpm does it idle at in neutral/park?

Thats weird that it drops almost 500rpm when you put it in gear,After hearing that i definitely wouldnt touch the idle.
Whoops shouldnt have wrote that, maybe the isc is dead then and thats why the people before you lifted the idle right up because 800 in neutral/park is a little high but 1000rpm is way too high.
Run it without the isc plugged in, see if it makes a difference.

now we got somewhere  , need as much info in your first post as possible to help ya fix the problem.

thats a strange one,
my first move would be to check for fault codes, its cheap and might help lead you to the problem or at least help you to eliminate a few other things.

i doubt the radiator and water pump failing have anything to do with it.
nothing uncommon about E series radiators splitting an end tank when they get old.

yeh under load its awesome just keeps pulling and doesnt miss...

just at lights... also just noticed when on the way home say doing 80ks an hr then have to get on the brakes hard for red lights so dropping revs pretty quick just before it comes to a stop it starts to shutter and the revs go below 500 maybe around the 200rpm then when complete stop they boost back up to around 500ish rpm..

got me straching my noodle

It does sound like a doozy of a problem, especially when it pulls like a schoolboy :D
The codes may tell the story like the other dude said

hay guys well an update .. i changed pretty much everything bump the idle up and fixed the TPS still running rough...

i just jumped online then and i noticed a bloke asking why his aircon only works on dimisters and not through the vents and ppl have replied back its a vacuum leak problem....

well mine is doing that same thing (just didnt think 2 and 2 where related are they ??)
..... no a/c through any vents just dimisters.... so the a/c vacuum leak also be causing it to have a rough idle ???? if so where do i look and how do i fix etc..

cheers i hope i might have solved it...

ok guys its still playing up... BUTTTTTT

i had no aircon working at all so i thought that was really weird so i poped the bonnet and found the main connection in the aircon lines was unpluged so i re conecected them.. YAY I HAVE AIRCON ...

not sure if that plug would of had anything to do with it but now when i start it in park/netural it sits on 500prm when i put it into drive it drops to 200rpm... is that normal ???

i have noticed that it seems to be holding the gears abit aswell... if that has anything to do with it.

took it to ford last week this is what they have done...

cleaned all sensors
adjust idle and tps
did compression test - came back clear
ran fault check - came back clear
checked ecu - came back clear
cleaned and checked dizzy, coil, leads and plugs all came back clear
checked for vacc leak came back clear
checked fuel system injectors/filter and pump came back clear

but still runs like a pig at idle...

i have noticed now it idles around 700rpm, then i place it in D and it bogs down to around 200rpm and shutters like crazy... this also happens when select R or even P again after its been in D...

i have been to 4 different mech now and all are still scratching there heads...

any other ideas ?????? :x
