hi all,

just a question in relation to timing my el xr8.

when the car is put in diagnostic mode it instantly revs up, is this the point where the timing must be checked? if so how long do you have before it goes out of timing mode? or when it settles down is this the time to do it?

any assistance is greatly appreciated becuase i am getting mixed ideas from reading through the forum

thanks

when it settles down...
however...
i am not 100% on this for the 5Ls, but I know EF/EL 4Ls you have to let them run through all the codes before they lock the timing.
if the timing light is jumping around a fair bit, it's not locked, wait longer.

Once the car is started and goes into diagnostic mode(about 1500rpm) adjust and check the timing while the revs are still high, once the revs settle down it goes out of diagnostic mode.
Also the timing marks wont line up once the revs drop.

hrm this is what im finding confusing... depending on who i speak to i hear different things.

does it cahnge depending on weather its an EECV car or EECIV

how long do you have to time it once it goes into diagnostic mode, mine only seems like a few seconds

if it was timed for when the engine settles abck down would that make it too advanced or retarded?

cheers

I think the short answer is, if its done right the timing marks will line up and you should see about 30 degrees and then you can see if its retarded or advanced from there.
If its not in test/ diagnostic mode the marks wont line up.
Good luck, a max ellerys always helps :D

hey guys need some help. I cant find the plug to bridge out.
Now the reason for that is I have a AC cobra and it has the ELxr8 donk in it, I dont have the fuse panel etc, it has the standard wiring loom.

Can someone show me a pic of what the plug should look like so I can track it down.

any help would be Great......

Happy to help you out with this one. What you need to do is ground out the ECU pins Pin #66 STI and Pin#91 GRD and then get the codes from Pin#2 which is STO. Do all this in lieu of the diagnostic port.

Might help to make up a small loom for easy access.

We're talking V8s. Both ECUs are the same bar the thermo fan relay wires and speed sensitve steering in the EL/NL/DLs.

I dont understand your question. If you have a 6cyl you will get help from the 6cyl forums. The only 60 pin V8 ECU are those in EBs and EDs.
