Hello everyone,
I have a 97 el v8 fairmont. car engine make strange noise 2months before. I posted the problem on the forum and someone said i am putted too much oil in the pan so the crankshaft is hitting the oil. That`s true, so i drain the oil and put new oil in, the noise is gone.

But! same problem happened, I have to change the engine oil every 2500Kms as i drive so much. I just put some new 10W-40 and new filter in, start the car, have a test drive. The noise is happened again! So i realised i am putting too much oil in. But i found i am wrong after i checked the dipstick(car cool down for 1 hour). The oil level just in the middle, looks clear. Oil pressure normal, temp normal. But the engine just make the sick sound. I post the video on youtube so you guys can check out what the problem.

why change it every 2500km??? its just a waste of money....ford recomend 10,000 or 6 months between changes, 5000km intervals are more realistic imo...

you say you drive it so much?? what does that mean, how often are you changing it??

well, perhaps that`s waste of money, My working place is 35KM far from my home and the car has 230,000 on it. This is the only car i have. I don`t want it break down on road and give me a bad day.

And i don`t have much free time to work on my car, sometimes i have to work on weekend if i have some job have to be done, otherwise my boss will kick my a**~ Only i can do is keep the fiuld clean and don`t let them to jam. Perhaps!

My only road legal vehicle (XG ute) also has 230000 on it. My working place is 100 kilometers from home, and i only change my oil every 10000 kilometers and havent had a single issue. Seriously mate, if your that concerned about it just do it every 5000. Waiting 5000 kilometers isnt going to hurt your engine...oil will probably still be clean.

My have I driven to the same work place for almost 6 years and change the oil every 4 to 6 months as that is that's 10000km's. I do 35km each way and have owned the car for 9 years & the car is at 268377km.

If the engine s**t it self I'm not too fussed as I already have a spare v8 ready to drop in, HO 302 v8's are pretty cheap 2nd hand these days anyway so don't worry about your engine as most people say E-series windsors are just getting worn in after 200k.

who cares about how often he does it. It's his car. How much oil are you putting in? 5L V8s take 5L of oil. I'd probably got a 20w50, or 20w60. I personally use Penrite HPR30 in my 5L

Almost 5L, still have some in the bottle, but not much. I am sure am not overfilled. Maybe i can try 20W-60 next time, The engine is pretty sick after 200K.

Penrite hpr30 is really good for a 200,000km and higher Windsor, they love the stuff.

in general we dont,
but if he is doing aprox 70km a day + other driving on weekends, lets say he is doing 500km a week our advice can save him $40-50 every 5 weeks thats $500 a year he could be putting towards modifications, rego , drugs.lol ect...

so in reality he can change it every week if he wants...but a little free advice can go a long way... :P

After seeing the video it sounds like valve train noise.
It could have a slightly gummed up lifter which may free itself over time.
With 200k on it I wouldnt be using an engine flush to clear it.
It isnt rumbly enough in my opinion but the sounds of it to be any thing major.

Oil changes at 5000km are good insurance. Any more often then that is over kill I reckon.
Even when I run my old Fairlane at the drags I still only used to do it every 5000 and I wasnt ever real kind to it.
I use Valvoline 20-50 in ours. At the end of the day underneath the EFI setup they are just a dirty old Windsor.
Oil and Filter every 5000 and so far touch wood its always looked after me in my V8's.
