Hi Guys

This is probably an noob type question, but I'm a noob to V8's.
I've just bought an EB XR8 that has run a bearing so it's time for a rebuild!
We were just going to do the bearings but if were going to that much trouble we might aswell do everything else aswell!
I've beeon looking at these rebuild kits from Summit racing, they suit the 94 5.0L mustang, from what I have read these are the same motor as we have in our falcons, so dose this mean it will suit?
Heres the link
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEM-MHP174-411/
To me that seems really cheap for the amount of stuff incluided (even after the currency conversion and postage)

Cheers
Simon

Does it really require boring ???
.040 is a large over bore on these engines..
Same with crank journals..
Mike them up first...
In most cases just a linish [polish] is required...

I'm not sure how much it has to be machined yet, but those kits were all about the same price, I just needed to know if they suit our motors. :)

Also, we'll repalce the timing chain aswell, but is it worth getting the gear drive?

Why not support your local engine builder / speed shop? If you tell them (better yet print it out and take it in) the Summit deal, they will usually try and get close. You will still need the odd part here and there, and if you can build a relationship with these people, they will be very helpful when it comes to advice and assistance in the future.
If you do need help later, and you go in and say " I got this stuff from Summit/Jegs/PAW, etc and it doesnt work" the first thing they will think is "stiff s**t" and not be as helpful as they could be. If we dont keep using the local people and products, they will dissapear.
Good luck.

Going to see how much parts are from the local sprint auto parts shop soon.

Then again, summit has some nice 331 gear

Try Outlaw or Chris Milton.

Yeah, I've been giving the 331 some thought now for a couple of months. Plenty of options and choices with good prices are good things :)

Get the Felpro silicone 1 piece sump gasket....Ford ones are too expensive and are actually made by Felpro....You'll need the smooth pan rail version.
Check the 351w into XE post above to see the 351 version. I got a summit .030" over TRW forged piston rebuild kit for that engine...supoib! It's now in an EBXR8 and it's shoving that thing around in fine form :D

Ahh great to hear!

can you reccomend any good ford V8 books? Like rebuilding, performance ect?
I want to learn a bit more about the stroker side of things, like Crank, piston and rod combos ect.

:)

Another quick question.

All the stroker cranks I've found on the net are .28oz but from what I have read on here we a need .50oz for our engines, or can an Internally balanced crank be used?

Yep use the 28 balance and re-balance your flex plate or flywheel and harmonic balancer..
Or replace balancer with 28oz ?? The stroker cranks have extra counterweights & first used on older 302 engine..
An SFI balancer is better anyway...Should be used on a performance build..
