Hi fellow ford fans. Just bought myself an EF series 2. 5Ltr auto. only problem is an erratic idle. Tacho goes from 400 to 700 RPM up and down constantly. Sounds like a real lumpy cam but im sure it dont have one . Also when powering on, she pings a bit. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks heaps
Dazza

Hunting idle can be many many things. Air leak in intake can do it - can also contribute to the pinging.

Personally i'd be looking for loose hoses or any other air leak around the intake system (i.e. after the MAF sensor).

Maybe it does have a cam and you have to use premium fuel???

Thanks dude - problem solved. It was the little clips on the top of the air filter box. Had to bend them a bit more to make them shut tighter and also tightned all hoses too. Thanks heaps fellas

you sure it was the airbox lid? any air getting in through the lid will still pass through the maf and be metered so that shouldnt cause a problem. when you were playing with it did you happen to move the extra piece of intake pipe that bends over the strut tower? if that clamp has been done up to tight it will squash it out of shape and cause an air leak.
