Hey Guys,

I got a Ford Fairmont 5.4L 3v and I just got my exhaust done (Single 3" Cat Back with one muffler) and it sounds good at low RPM (0-1800rpm) then between 1800 and 3000rpm it sounds like a 4cyl with one of those huge tips on the back, basically droning. It doesnt have the growl of a V8. Then after 3000rpm up to 5000rpm it sounds like a V8 should.

I have herd you can get rid of the droning by putting a resonator in the system but i have my doubts. Wondering if you guys can give me a bit of advice on this before i go spend the money?

Heres a You Tube Video of an FPV GT which has the sound im after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoQ_zOhKMlk

Cheers,

Hey mate.

For starters, these engines need back pressure in the exhaust, so a twin muffler system is better and i highly doubt it would drone with a system like that. Have you got a custom setup?

And to be honest that exhaust sounds poo :/

Here is what a single 3" with 2 mufflers sounds like, of course a 3v will have a bit more of a meaty sound than a Boss :)...

yeah i agree with punktured that clip sounds crap.
but if you like the raspy sound have a look at berkle systems,
difillipo will cost you $$$ but are probably worth it.

two mufflers might have to be the go on a 3inch single being an auto. autos drone alot more than manuals :(.

as for the amount of mufflers on a twin system, im yet to find out, ask me in a month or two after i get stimulated by mr rudd :D

Cool Cool,

Cheers for the input guys!!!,

Nope not a custom, just a standard 3" inch system. :( a cheap and nasty Ian Diffen jobbie. The muffler is just near the diff roughly under the passanger seat. Was sposed to give me a bit of sound until i can get a full system, but now its just annoying especially on the freeway. I reckon they have put one of those turbo mufflers on there but im not sure have to get under there and have a real good look. I had a turbo muffler on my AU 6cyl and it sounded good at idle, but very average everywhere else.

Ill take it into Perth Exhaust Centre get the muffler changed to a straight through muffler and add another one, then see what happens. I'll see what they reckon too, they have a pretty good rep from what i can tell. What do you guys think?

Yeah Supercharger or Turbo, i wouldnt mind either

P.S. punktured, nice car dude :)

Sorry got no clips of the Big Boy system yet :| Been meaning to get some clips up but been lazy.

Here are some clips of my twin 2.5" Berklee system, which are cheaply made and not worth the money...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLV9ih0P ... annel_page

Also if you're going to do an exhaust you're better off getting a full system done together as it works out cheaper. I bought Di Filippo extractors with 2 x 2.5" cats and the Berklee cat back seperate where i could have gotten a Di Filippo 3" cat back with the extractors for the same price :/

Manta make some nice systems for these cars and they're available in 304 stainless too and they are made in W.A. BPT are a dealer for them.
There is also a mob in the Vines http://www.cruisinon.ws/borla.asp bringing in Borla exhausts from the U.S.....they make the highest quality, best performance, best sounding mufflers, around. No systems for Falcons yet but it's worth buying the mufflers and making your own I reckon.

Hmmmmm, be interesting to see what a twin 3" sounds like :). That old exhaust of your sounds pretty good. I think ill bite the bullet and get a whole new system put on. I was thinking Pacie Extractors, 2.5" High Flow Cats and a Twin 2.5". What you reckon i need to save, bout $2,500?

I put a redback twin 2.5 exhaust on the missus fairlane. No extractors just cat back. Doesn't drone at all when cruising cant really hear it put the boot in and you get a nice burble from it. Sounds good at idle to.
