this question has probley been asked s**t load but im going to ask again. Ive ditched the decision to drop a 5.0 ltr in my fairmont (not worth the coin effort for a few extra kilowatt) and do some work to the 4.0ltr. im going for the K&N filter, extrators and cat back exhaust system. Now what else can any one suggest?? how can get sum poke out of this b**ch. Me monty is a EL, and its too much of a old ladies car!! Im a lady but im not old. Ive put a set of 18 Koyas and king springs low, now it needs to go better as well as looking better. Suggestions Please

Try the 6 cylinder forum and read the stickies at the top. Few members are getting over 200 rwhp+ so it'll be worth a gander.

You're on the wrong forum if you want to talk about the 6.
As for the conversion not being worth it well that's because you were talking about a stock 5.0. What you should do is go 351 windsor.....then it's worth doing.

Cheers,
Pete.

Yeh I agree its worth the effort with the 51. I spotted a EFI 351W in a local paper that came out of a F250, price tag pf $2800 , ks 80,000. When I sit down and realy think about it i will probley keep the mont for another year or two, then It will be time to upgrade to a XR6 turbo or somthing like that. If I do a little bit to keep myself content with the 4.0l until upgrade time, and the fact that my mechanic takes his sweet time to do s**t (coz he does it for free) is I think the best way to go

Ahh yeah I understand.
I saw that 5.8 too...it's too much. I've picked up the last three I got for $500 each. the first one I got back in '92 for my XR had done only 21k(it was a '91 model) and I got it for $2500. Honestly these days you're better off just buying a crate 351 in 392 or greater cubes and just get the scraps off a 5.0 and an aftermarket intake and you're in business.

Cheers,
Pete.

Probably the best way to get the old bus moving a bit quicker is to put some 3.45, 3.7 or even 3.9 diff gears in it.

If you are planning on a car upgrade in the next 18-24 months forget about major engine mods stick to the bolt on stuff.
