A mate at work has a 2000 AU XR8. On the drivers side rocker cover there is a little plaque with '70 NG LAM' in cursive writing. Is this normal? What does it mean?

It's Tong Lam, its on the rocker cover, and it's a handbuilt motor

I don't think anyone should be dis-appointed if their car came of the assembly line with a hand built motor.

If you pulled apart some of these 'hand built' engines and had a look inside you'd not be impressed by what you see... They may be hand built but they're not meticulously blueprinted or assembled. IMO they should have been put together a lot better.
