A mate at work has a 2000 AU XR8. On the drivers side rocker cover there is a little plaque with '70 NG LAM' in cursive writing. Is this normal? What does it mean?

a small silver plate with etched writing?? doesnt that signify the builder that built the engine by hand??

Yep thats the name of the Tickford engine builder. You'll find it doesnt actually say '70 NG LAM' it's actually a blokes name :lol:

The 200kw, 220kw and 250kw ones had them. All hand builft by Tickford Engineering.

iirc the plate was on the intake manifold?

I don't think anyone should be dis-appointed if their car came of the assembly line with a hand built motor.

If you pulled apart some of these 'hand built' engines and had a look inside you'd not be impressed by what you see... They may be hand built but they're not meticulously blueprinted or assembled. IMO they should have been put together a lot better.

i was saying i thought it would be the engine build plate
but the Original Post says it was on the rocker cover

when i though the plate was on the intake manifold
