Hi Guys,

I am in WA and have been contemplating converting my EL I6 to a V8 for a long time.
I can now get my hands on a EF v8 ex-cop (with LPG), unlicensed.

If I converted my licensed EL I6 (with LPG) to a v8 and used all the factory v8 bits as I have the complete donor car, what issues would I run into with pits in WA?
Will they just be happy checking the car and noting that it is now a v8 with the new engine number? Do I need an engineering certificate (thought I did not have to as they came v8 from factory)?

Also;
I know there are differences in looms, but heard if you change the entire engine loom, it would plug into your H loom or the EL.
Not the actual reason for this post, but if you wish to confirm - great!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

And noting that if you have the donor car, change the fuel lines (easy - just seperate the brake line), the Inside Firewall Harness (remove the dash, and there is a harness left on the firewall - its not the same as the i6 one), and the ECU Harness. The rest of the car is compatible.

Thanks for that guys - very much appreciated.

Went to look at the car yesterday and they dropped straight away to 700 dollars - weird. Closer inspection showed it used to be a chaser, but the LSD was gone "oh we put that on that one" (pointing at one of the 6 EF/EL's he had there). Computer was taken out and it only had the cop tacho. v8 ran rough on petrol and ok on gas. However I noticed it took 20 mins to warm up the engine, so suspect they got rid of the thermostat to cover up head gasket issues.

So please, if someone in Perth wants to look at this car. DONT! its a waste of your time. Missing heaps of bits and also the LPG tank 5 years out of date (expensive to get recert). Done 306000k's and there is some weird story with lost rego papers and some plates at a cousin in south WA.
The car is white and unlicensed and is located in Wanneroo. Advertised on Gumtree.

Guys were high when we went there to check out the car too! In car world you do get into some weird situations...

Guess I have to hunt around further. If anyone feels like getting rid of their v8 wreck or unlicensed - I am happy to hear!

Cheers!

For LPG, this is the case - if you are changing a system to another vehicle.

But this is not the case with the hard lines for Petrol. Most people actually use the I6 Fuel lines - Ive just found that for the amount of work (about 1-2 hrs if im slack) its easiest to have the correct V8 Fuel lines. You can reuse fuel lines from another vehicle with no issues.
