hey guys i'm new on here. getting a worked eb xr8 manual sometime during the week. and he used to have an au inlet manifold and afm on it. and it had 430hp atw with that. just wondering the upgrade of the inlet manifold. is it just the manifold you change. where it bolts to the heads and that. or is it the whole lot all the way up to where it connects to the t/b? cheers.

cant remember if he said atw at the flywheel. but its not a typo. its got a full scat bottom end. gt40p heads, flat top pistons. its basically got the works, but still only a 5L. already got bigger tb and injectors and everything. all they did was take of the inlet manifold and afm and put the standard eb ones back on. cause they didn't know anyone to tune the ecu. but still has the bigger injectors and everything. so i gotta get the whole lot then. how much do they normally go for? cheers.

i'm looking for one myself. they are not exactly easy to come by and when they do pop up, generally they are around the $5-600 mark.

by 'afm' i presume you mean 'air flow meter' or 'maf'. not sure on the price of these. i don't actually run one on mine. mafless setup.

without knowing the full details of the engine, the figure still sounds a little too healthy. there's a copuple of other guys on here with a lot of work done inc. alloy heads, which generally flow a lot better than gt40p's and 430hp is beyond them.

what ecu is it running?

cam?

headwork?

if it does have a lot of work done you may be better off sourcing an aftermarket intake manifold setup.

The Explorer intake would need to be extrude honed within an inch of it's life to allow an engine to make that sort of power too.

I will tell you now the GT-40 that has been welded and ported to within an inch of its life is holding my 351 at 428hp! This engine has 10.5 comp, R-Series alloy heads, roller cam, roller rockers, 4into1's dual 3" exhaust system.

The dude is full of sh!t if he reckons it makes 430 with gt40p's naturally aspirated.

if by standard you mean a HO manifold? Why on earth put one of those on a "430hp" engine...?

most books will tell ya ...its damn hard to get 400 reliable horsepower from a 5.0l.....let alone 430 with gt40p,s ....you,d need longer rods , decent heads and heaps of revs
its all s**t

the rods are apparently too short and dont allow enough time at high revs to suck in enough fuel .....theres actually race kits in the states designed especially to do that

I'll leave the long rod vs short rod debate for another time, except to say that you do not need longer rods for a 400hp windsor.

on the subject of manifolds could somebody please help me out here!! i have just changed an eb/nc 5L into an au3 5L with the exception of the coil packs and what not, i'm going to use the dizzy still, and i would like to know what the sensor is that is in the inlet manifold of the eb motor between the front two passenger side injectors, as the au3 does not have it, do i need it? or can i ignore it??
