Hi XR8 march 97. I would like to know if it is worth updating to AU200kw lower and upper manifold with spacwe and throttle body. Is the AU throttle body bigger.

March 97, i assume you mean it is an EL, TB would be worthwhile, but do heads and am and exhaust as well. Manifold from 185EL and 200 Au are the same i think, correct me if i am wrong

the AU throttlebody is bigger at 65mm while the "pre-AU" t/b is only 57mm (same size as the MAF sensor).

i guess you could call it the most budget of upgrades from the standard HO manifold. i have one for sale...

Brett would agree with me in saying the Explorer manifold PLUS the GT40P heads is exactly what comes out of the AU200?

i wouldn't expect a huge increase from the gtp's. i upgraded my eb with gt40p's, explorer and 65mm t/b and saw an increase at the wheels of only 10 - 15rwkw. mind you the stock e7's were ported and shaved and the ho was ported to match so it may have been a little above a std setup to start with.

over a stocky, you may expect gains a tad higher.

if your's is the 185kw engine, as has already been mentioned, it should have an explorer type manifold already.

bear in mind though that the non xr auv8 had gt40p's and explorer and only had 175kw. a lot of the power comes from the cam. this is no $2 exercise either but it will net bigger gains than a set of gtp's and even more in conjunction with them.

if you are handy with spanners and have the right tools, you should be able to do the heads yourself.

prety sure the 185 el's were later than march 1997 so no explorer manifold there i wouldnt think  there is still a few sets of the ported 40ps from yella terra floating arround on ebay and the likes, would be better than a stock set just depends on funds you want to spend. dont worry about being handy with tools, just do what i do and tear it all apart and pull all ya hair out trying to get it back together, no better way to learn

On my EB...i've already got a spare (that I picked up for $450 with 65mm TB), but at that price I couldn't resist another. Less than an hour from where I live as well.

I am porting the intake for my AU at the moment, and figured a spare might come in handy if I dig a little too deep...

Anyone know if I will still need EGR valve with these. What size throttle body should i go and will any of these be direct fit to existing electrics. What about TPS sensor.
