I think I'd rather have a magnetic sump plug than an oil filter.

Beware of Ebay.

The k&n filters have a magnet on them.
Magnetic filter is gonna do more then a magnetic sump plug.
Oil with metal in it that is going to the mains bearings won't necessarily go past the sump plug first ;)
But it always has to go through the filter.
Can't do any harm IMO, but then I wouldn't go out of my way in a panic to get one either.

Why not both?

I have a magnetic sump plug already.

nearly $40.00 for a magnet is a lot of money. I'd imagine they could be picked up for a lot cheaper (they wouldn't have a sticker on them saying oil filter magnet though).

I havn't seen this style before, I've seen the ones that go on the side of the filter before and a pictuure of it cut open and it looked to be effective.

These magnets wouldn't work with the K&N oil filters either because of the hex on the end.

EDIT:

I didn't realise that they had. I'll definately keep using them now!

not a bad idea actually

auto pans have magnets in them

might as well use it on the oil filter

i do like the idea on teh sticker on the magnet to warn you not to throw it, kind of like the K+N stickers u get for teh air filters

What's the difference between these two?
The website states both are suitable to the same Falcon 5L V8?
Any idea of cost guys?
Cheers.

On the shelf retail for $20 inc GST. The 3001 is the one you want. 1009 is the short style needed on AUs with the oil cooler.

I see Autobarn now sell Drift oil filters, which are knock offs of the K&N, also have the nut on the end and magnets in them.

On the K&N site they don't have magnets listed as a feature on their oil filter. Strange if its such a good idea why don't they list it as an advantage?

If its so easy and of such huge benefit why don't manufacturers do that from the factory?
