Nup auto's are boring, especially with a big power engine.

as far as i know the r302 block has been discontinued in favour of the new motorsport boss 302 block.

aren't the v8 supercar cranks designed to run a rod length of 5.4in to 5.6in in a 347ci capacity. what rod length are you thinking of running

Yes. Richie is probably going to use a large bore for 331 though?

Sorry, I misread the post above me. I thought xr8boy was saying that they were using 347ci.

they are still under 5.0L's but run a long rod

thats why they run such a small (honda) journal, to get the long rod in there

I doubt that they use Honda size in this case??
Rod sizes up to 5.4 inch long can be used ..The pin height in piston is different to accept rod length..
TMK the cranks have to be a certain weight ???
Remember Holden getting a please explain about lightweight cranks..
The new Boss 302 block doesn't accept strokers very well...

I have no idea about V8 supercar rod length but achieving longer rods via smaller big end journals can work and in some ways safer than pushing the pin higher into the piston.

Yes its NOT a question of strength when it comes to V8 supercars.. Its a question of performance with what they can do around the rules.. It wouldn't surprise me if they used a different combination to say Bathurst to Hamilton , qualifying.. There is less side loading the further the rod is in piston.. The longer rod can give more torque due to piston is at tdc longer.. Esp usefull with pump type fuels..
But as they say.. With every action there is an equal to opposite reaction...
330 strokers generally rev very hard, the gudgeon pin just mises the oil control ring with 5.4 rod.. Pistons are custom anyway..

Thought we had a chance of a R302 block quietly but so far to no avail. Would be good as these are lightened. Probably go with Dart Sportsman 8.2" deck.
The calculations are being toyed with as we speak.
Bore wil be around 4.16". Rod size to be determined but over 5.6"
Journal size from memory is around 1.569" or such like.
Didnt weigh the crank but you can do dumbell lifts with one hand.
Once calcs are done I will post up specs & pics - if I am allowed!

Gear box likely to be 4L80E but I think the electronics in these play up at higher power end. Cost is $5100 which includes the controller. I understand these are also available without electronics which may be the way to go. Although I know of a Monaro here pumping 750 fwhp through the electronic box.

Richie.
