How do you quieten down the moaning in a 5L power steering pump, EF EL models. Is using graphite powder in the power steering fluid advisable?

I don't know any way. Mine was real noisy before, did a complete flush and it became quieter. I think they are inherently noisy and get more noisy as they age. You don't notice it unless you're at idle anyway.

Yeh as with auto trans fluid they must be changed regularly as heat burns the fluid and causes damage to the internal parts. Ive partly flushed it and it appears quieter now.

yep i know the problem
worn bearings when i used to work at auto power steering we had a few fairlanes that had noisy pump 9x at of 10 it was bearings the bearing code number is a 6203

Yeah all the C111 pumps are noisy as. As above, bearings... but i dont imagine that's a fun job!
