Guys, ok- underdrives-

EF 5.0 V8

1. How much?

2. Can I fit them?

3. Where from?

4. Advantages? Disadvantages

All I understand is that they reduce parasitic loss- does anyone have diagrams to show me how they work?

I guess its sort of the same feeling that my EB 6cyl got when I took off A/C belt and powersteering belt. eg:- Free revving, seemingly more power.

I know this seems like a dumb question, but help if ya can
Ta!
Mick

Get em from BPT motorsport.

You kind of hit the nail on the head when you said it makes the car seem more revvy.

You can fit em yourself if you are handy with a spanner.

I had em on my car, one of the best mods for a windsor.

You'll need a belt too.

Because the water pump turns slower because it is under driven.
I've never heard of anyones car overheating because of it. Mine sits on the 'L' of NORMAL on the guage.

This webpage has some useful info for you Underdrives

One replaces the crank pulley for a smaller one, one replaces the water pump pulley for a bigger one and the other replaces the alternator pulley for a larger one.

It may not be our engine but you can catch the general idea. A smaller crank pulley turns everything else slower. The water pump and alternator with larger pulleys get turned even slower.
When you go for the race series or 3 pulley kit you don't have to change the belt it ends up being the same track for the belt. If you go with just the crank pulley you will need to change the belt.

I have had them fitted for about a year now.
I fitted them easily, but took the alternator out and gave the alternator and new pulley to mechanic for him to fit it.

No real gain except it revs alot easier. Volts sit very low at idle, and the battery died about 2 months after fitting. Fitted a new battery and its been ok, except volts are still very low at idle.

I would recommend, just make sure you have a half decent battery/charging system.

I had low volts at idle on the ED after installing BPT 3 pulley underdrives- particularly with the thermos running. Also watch power steer idler - you may have to get smaller one. The belt can foul itself - an EF/EL I6 one suits.
Got a smaller alternator pulley of a VN crummydoor. I think diameter is 55mm with 17mm shaft. Now have this on EL style alternator in the ED.
Works well.

Richie.
