ok, iv just found out the radiator on my DF is cracked,
well, one of those stupid plasic tanks are anyways,

was talking to the radiator guy, apparently its a regular thing,
especially on the v8s?

i also happened to notice a receipt in my car for a new radiator and top hose,

is there any way to stop this crap from happening?
its cracked right where the bottom hose connects to it,
and im now currently in the middle of pulling the radiator out...

has it cracked the outlet pipe on the radiator tank or the side tank itself?

yeah its a common problem. most of the time they block up with casting sand and split a tank, best to give the engine a good flush when you replace the radiator.

or if its the outlet pipe, somone did the hose clamp up too tight.

It also helps to drill a small hole in the t'stat. This stops heat shock at the radiator, which is one of the causes of cracked tanks.

thanks guys, took me 15mins to get the radiator out... even easyer than my XF,
and to think, the radiator guy wanted to charge me $100 to do it...

iv heard of the hole drilled in the stat, apparently ford do this as standard practice now...

i couldnt find the crack myself, it was just above the bottom radiator hose,
i checked the hose (to make sure i wasn't going to look really stupid) but it seems fine,
might even replace the bottom one while its all out,

the plan was to do a flush when i bought it, but never got around to it,
so i have the stuff sitting there to do it,
might also try cleaning out the clear tank while im at it...

anyone know of a good way to do this? was tempted to put a gritty soap in,
but i dont want grit in my cooling system if i cant wast it all out again...
