HELPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me how in the world you remove the fan clutch. I tried for hours on Saturday with ou success. I had my son wedge a screw driver between the water pump pulley and pwr steering pulley and I had had a shifter (couldn't find a 36mm open ender anywhere) on the nut belting the crap out of it with a rubber mallet and I could'nt budge it. |

Which way are you turning it? It is a RIGHT hand thread so that engine rotation tightens it rather than loosens it.

if it's like the 6, you need a special tool which grasps 2 bolts at once, kinda like a stretched out spanner.

According to the workshop manual the V8 has a right hand thread.
I've tried both directons. No go |

Ive taken mine off & replaced it with thermos. mine is a 5.0L eb too & it is definately left hand thread. What you were doing to begin with should work. How bout wd40 or similar to penetrate first & a heavier mallot

Hey Sam are you sure it is a left hand thread?
The manual says it is a right hand thread. Which way did you turn it to undo the nut. I want to fit thermos also, if I can get the blinking thing off!!!! |

Yeah, it's a PITA. Horrible feeling i may be wrong. just let me check the nut as it is under the house.

I Just love these hand drawn pictures.
Ive removed a clutch fan off an Xf with a sledge hammer, spanner and the right kind of leverage. Best of Luck with it earnie. If you dont want to break anything then just get the tool for the job

Sorry dude, it is a right hand thread, turn it anti clockwise.
Ive edited my 1st post & added a picture so you can see which way the thread goes. it does rust so WD40 will help, if only a little.

Thanks Sam, I think I'll make up one of those tools that holds the water pump pulley and give it another go. The kid will probably be happy with that as well (scrapped knuckles).
By the way what sort of control circuit did you use to switch the fans on? I going to use the Davies Craig thermal switch . |

I've always used a heavy screw driver with a decent hammer (Not a mallet), usually a cpl of good hits to shock it and off she spins.
Get the screw driver right on the edge of the nut and you should be right, otherwise buy the right spanners lol. |

I avoid traffic & lights like my life depended upon it (just a personal quirk), so they don't get much use. I just use a switch on the dash & a relay. I kept blowin 30 amp relays so ive now gone up to a 40 amp with no problems so far.
