Any luck over the weekend with the snapped bolts in the timing cover Martin?

Well im claiming saturday morning as a victory.... i didnt get a chance to get to any fastener supplier before they closed, but i should be able to get down to coventrys or similar during the week.

The timing cover is off (and isnt damaged - woohoo, $729 list price on that beauty) and the bolt has been extracted. I've never seen anything like it... the bolt was actually loose in the thread of the block - the problem was the unthreaded part of the bolt that goes through the timing cover... someone at Ford got a little carried away with the sealant... combined with the corrosion of having a bolt that goes through 2 different kinds of metal and spends a lot of time around coolant... it wasnt going anywhere...

I ended up pulling the timing cover off and leaving half the bolt in the block (which unthreaded by hand).... and drilled out the bit that was left in the timing cover... it simply would not budge...

So yeah, will get some new bolts this week (stainless) and just need to remove the old gasket from the block.. should be turning the key on saturday arvo... 20 days after the pump itself failed, lol.

Consider this a cautionary tale of the evils of rust.... ive got a big tube of antisieze

Thanks 4.9 EF Futura

if I can get that measurement it'll be mush appriciated. I think the unit I brought has the mouning boss almost 2 inches further out . my pump measures almost 15cm from back of mount to pully mount surface.

good luck with your install I'm collecting parts and will try to make the backspaced pully before pulling the car apart.

Mate, the measurement from the mounting surface of the water pump to the flat part of the boss (i.e. the mounting surface for the pulley) is 104mm

Tried ford spares?

Just wondering if it's worth your while modifying this stuff? I got a brand new pump to suit e-series for $135 from sprints...

Stainless not always best as the threads can bind up when you try to remove them later. Its something to do with the cutting of the thread on the bolt and the nature of stainless. Have seen it to be more trouble than its worth.

Rich.
