was in repco looking at some nuline iddler pulleys and noticed that they have a replacement pulley for the belt tensioner but i thaught i remember reading somewhere that you cant replace that pulley only the whole tensioner unit. so does anyone know if i can replace just the tensioner pulley or do i need a new tensioner??

just had a look at mine and the bottom idler and middler are removable. If you do it, take it apart before you buy new ones, because if you remove the bearings without damaging the pulley youd be able to get replacement brgs locally alot cheaper.

i didnt think you could replace the bearings in the stock pulleys but it dosent matter cos im gona get some of these nuline metal ones, the original plastic ones look a bit worn. just wondering if the pulley on the belt tensioner comes off cos the bloke at repco rekons it does but im sure i read on here that it doesnt.

It looks to me that it may be either a bloody great rivet or the end of the shaft is pressed over to look like a rivet. I reckon that if you could get that apart somehow or cut it off and drill a bolt hole for a bearing shaft it'd be a good thing. I thought about doing it last time mine shat but couldn't find a replacement pulley. When my bearing went it melted the pulley so just another bearing wasn't an option. Let us know how you get on.

I did what you are suggesting xler8. There is a pulley you can get from the auto store. Just take it to them.

i changed mine last year, all the idlers are avaiable in castiron or steel-----take them off and measure them in store to match in catolog, replaced the tensioner-------working on a repair for it--plastic wears to fast. MAKE SURE the ribs and grooves match for belt.

there was a bloke on here ages ago that was selling billet pulleys and he was also selling billet tensioner pulleys but you had to send him the original tensioner unit and he would send one back with a billet pulley on it. i just wana know how he was removing the original plastic pulley from the tensioner??

MrLandau was selling those tensioners. I happened to have one of them. You remove the original by chiseling the metal bracket off the middle and it will slide straight off.

hey you too with the squeaky pulleys hey ..

i was told by ford that the tensioner unit has to be replaced itself, and the pulley cannot just be replaced like the other two.

Ive done my two easy ones , but the tensioner is the one that dosnt shut up!!

you can replace the pulley on the tensioner. i had to do one recently. i used a dremel to remove the edge of the peened over portion. i then fitted an ef 6 cyl pulley ( i think. ) then drilled and tapped it for a bolt and a large washer. it has done 5000 k's since and is still on there and working.

What briney did is what I did. It's a 6cyl idler pulley, as I said you can get it from any auto store.
