hi guys,

i am considering some roller rockers on my 5liter. it is stock appart from a twin exhaust, a kand n filter and soon to have an explorer manifold.

first of all what are the benifits of rolelr rockers in this combination?

are they a bolt on affair? (rocker cover clearance etc?)

what is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7 units?

thanks!

benifits are less friction ,,,,which equates to more power, quicker response ,cleaner oil , cooler running engine , more fuel efficient ,less wear and tear on valvetrain etc

difference between 1.6- 1.7 is the figure you multiply by the cam lift to give you valve lift in fitting 1.7 is similar to fitting a slightly higher lift cam but a lot easier and without altering valve timing and not affecting idle

normally non adjustable 1.7s will fit stock valve covers ok ...but often you need different length pushrods as to get lifter preload correct

adjustables are easier to set but normally hit on valve covers some people use two cover gaskets , or aftermarket valve covers which can run into clearance problems on some intakes which you can eliminate by using a phenolic spacer between upper and lower intakes

hope this helps

are you ever considering a set of heads?
e7's take pedestal mount rockers, where alot of aftermarket heads take stud mount.. i wouldnt wanna have to buy them twice..

ah ok well i have E7s at the moment but will put a set of gt40ps on at some stage. would these require the same roller rockers?

so am i much better off with the 1.7s over the 1.6s?

are they easy to fit and measure new pushrod length or is it a job for the pros?

thanks guys

Depends on cam specs??
A Crane 2030 with 1.6
A Crane 2031 with 1.72 is fine...
They are designed to work this way..
Need GOOD valve springs, don't rely on beehive springs alone !!

I fitted 1.72 non adjustable street terras on my eb and didnt need to do anything apart from bolt them on, and they actually stopped a couple of my ticking lifters.

How much did they set you back? Besides the lifter noise, were there any other differences :)

I paid alot for mine, roughly 600 from memory.Only because i got them through coventrys, i would say you could get them cheaper though.
My ticking lifters would have shutup because of the extra preload on them but apart from that i felt a noticeable little jump in power and fuel economy and the eb just felt better to drive and ran smoother.
I had no probs with hitting stock rocker covers and i would recommend them highly, or if your back is in good condition you can get the adjustables(i cant bend over my lowered eb for too long so non adjustables suit me fine)
Hope this helps

Good place to get bits for those interested is at Summernats. I got the Pedders suspension for the Blue car 3 years ago, was quoted(written quote) 880 at the nats, then attended the local pedders with the written quote and they hooked me up.
I know you could do the same by attending the yella terra stand and get a decent deal. Juts an idea

They look ok but i would be going with a known brand with a good reputation, just to be safe.
