I would like to know if in fact these cars are fitted out as FAIRMONTS & info on VIN's would be good.

Hi Ben.

My name is Chris, me and Boxy run a website dedicated to these cars, http://www.fairmontgt.com.

What do you mean by fitted out as Fairmonts? The badging on the boot strip was Fairmont rather than Falcon. The plates on the cars were located on the front of the radiator support. The S&A part of the plate (Source and Assembly) was MS33 which means it was sourced from Australia and assembled in South Africa. This is instead of the JG33 of the Australian GT's.

The plates also had both Afrikaan and English text on the plate.

The outside was almost the same as the Australian GT. The side stripes were missing the Super-Roo and some of the later Fairmont GT's were missing them (we think that was due to a parts shortage, so they just deleted some parts that were not in stock).

On the inside the trim was also different to the Aussie GT, and the gauges were in Metric measures.

One other thing Did we have FAIRMONT GT's?
I have a book from the Marque Classic series title
FORD FALCON GT 1967-2004 & I will read up on it to see if any info listed on these FAIRMONTS

Australian had the Falcon GT. The Falcon was re badged to the Fairmont over in South Africa as the Falcon was discontinued back in 1963 (these were sourced from America). The Falcons had a bad reputation over there at the time, so instead of calling the Australian cars Falcons there were changed over to Fairmonts.

the fairmont gts have all the gt bits ours had. 351-4v donks, fmx autos, one has a top loader.. 9 inch diffs and the 6 leaf heavy duty suspension and the long range tanks... just about blew a load when they came in... the xy's even have the ALUMINIUM shaker scoop assembly..

Hi low ghia,

The GT's over there were hard to find with a 36 gallon tank, most of them were just chopped up and changed around (such as a metal plate over the spare tyre area with holes punched in it).

If anyone has any questions about them feel free to ask.

Edit: I have attached a plate from a South African GT.

Hi huggiebear,

The prices are now starting to go up as these are genuine XY GT's, not replicas.

Late last year they could be had for around 10-15,000AUD each from Australia. Now to get one here you would be looking at 25,000AUD+ for most of them. On the FairmontGT website a South African XY GT that was in pieces just sold for $20,000.

Some of the better examples are fetching even more!

To get one from South Africa the price there does vary a lot. Some of the cars are in shocking condition, and they are going for around 7,000AUD, but some of the betters ones are going for 15,000AUD+. The cost to get it imported over here adds on though, and if you are going to buy one you are best of getting two in the one container and selling one here.

There is one on the site at the moment coming up for sale. It can be seen here: http://www.fairmontgt.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=229
