Hi guys,
there's a few of us out there with an AU top end on their E series.

What spark plugs are we using?

I've got GT40 heads, not the P's, thereofore I need plugs to suit
EB,EL GT / ED SPRINT? as apposed to AU I II III plugs? Or doesn't really matter.

This is what I've found online;

Denso - ELGT - 1.0, AU I II III - 1.3

NGK - AU I II III - 1.4

Bosch - AU I II III - 1.0, EB,EL GT, SPRINT - 1.1

Note the varying gaps from 1.0-1.4?

Cheers.

Thanks Jas,
I'm curious to see what guys with the GT40's use, I know there's not as many out there.
I've been using the NGK iridiums for the last 4 or so years and thought they were great, but they are due.

Cheers, Pete.

If they've been good for ya mate stick with em!!.
Do you know what your GT-40's came off?,and are they the GT-40's, how many vertical ribs are on the end's 3 or 4?,
if they have 3 they will be the GT-40's, but if they have 4 there the GT- 40P's,going by my 2006 FORD RACING book.
Cheers,

GT40 heads were fitted to the ED XR8 Sprint... I don't believe that they listed a different plug but it would pay to check.

Ok the plugs to suit the ED SPRINT is a AWSF 32C, the gap is the same as the SEFI, going by my owners manual.
Hope that helps!!.

What about the EB & ELGT?

Or did they have GT40P?

When checking the websites of Denso, Bosch, NGK, the gaps are as follows;

EB GT, ED SPRINT - 1.1
ELGT - 1.0
AU I II III - 1.0, 1.3, 1.4

Hard to make a decision?

Cheers.

go half way-1.2mm as the gaps will get bigger with wear, and regap yearly, after 4 years and how many ks?the iridiums are close to 100,ooo ks plugs, making them semi maintence free.other wise you will have to try all the settings to find the best one to suit the motor,i will be in the same boat soon when i change the top end and a few bits

Just experiment with the gaps.

Yep thats right.

I use NGK BPR6EFS in the missus AUIII with the factory GT40P's. All catalogues only list iridium plugs, buti dont believe in them, i'd rather change them every 5-10000kms.

I gapped them to 1.4mm.

So what's the verdict guys?

ELXR8 with GT40, not GT40P heads.

Get EBGT / ELGT / SPRINT spec plugs

or

Get AU I II III XR8 spec plugs?

Cheers.

Leaning towards the E series spec plugs as I'm still running the E series ignition system, haven't gone to the AU series ignition system.
