yeah, and so would a decent set of alloys, much more effectively too!
i was explaining why iron headed 347s generally have underwhelming peak power figures compared to 5Ls of a similar nature.
that is what you were getting at with your original post wasn't it...

You got it... Alloys are the best for optimuim power but a good $1500 for set gets pricey but are well worth it...

could get a set of trickflow track heats landed here for under 2k.
i've been looking :P

when you look at what you are going to end up spending to get a decent set of GT40s the alloys start to make more sense.
i mean by the time you get decent valvesprings, guideplates, and machining for the valve springs and screw in studs, you are almost doubling the price of your 600 pair of heads anyway, and thats before you get any port work done to them or even think about bigger valves...

gotta look at your goals and weigh it up i guess.

Well I'm going to see what the procomp heads go like very soon. For the occasional blast down the quarter for what is an everyday cruiser I wont baulk at the price. I've read that the later stuff is better than the earlier casts and that a common problem too was the stud holes were out of alignment with the valves. I'm a machinist by trade so a fix is pretty inexpensive for me.
