Just curious, has anyone taken the pipes off from behind the cats (in front of the Y) on an Eseries with the stock manifolds and cats?

mine is an original exhaust so it is just about seized together, i was just curious as to how it would sound before i get my proper exhaust done, purely just a metter of interest

When I changed the exhaust on my last car I ran it with only headers just to see how it would sound, that was an i6 though. Wasn't actually as loud as I expected but then again it was a completely stock engine. Had more of a bark and didn't sound as nice as it did with a cat/full exhaust either.

On the saloon car we had (also i6) we ran race pipes with only cats and it was f**k loud, but high compression + big cams tend to do that.
