na the 3/4 thread is knackered aswell it pulled the thread out of it. these keenserts dont require the use of other stuff for them to hold in as they have 4 tabs u push in to lock the insert in there, and they are way stronger than a helicoil because the insert is longer. its up to chad where he wants to go next i spose
ok,then-tap the crank 7\8 unf the full depth, buy a 7\8unf high tensile bolt with the same lenght of thread, get the bolt in a lathe and drill the tapping hole size you need for the stock bolt-but dont thread the hole until its in the crank and loctited---maximum holding and high tensile sleeve insert, may be the last chance to fix it.screw the bolt in and bottom out with loctite, when set-cut of flush and tap the hole.

Cheers for the help everyone, especially 3x-puursui7, but it's at a stage for me now where I've decided to pull it out and get another crank in there. Mechanic is going to do it for bugger all if I'm in no hurry to do it, which I'm not.

I've worked out I can't afford the 347 at the moment cos the missus new car must take priority, so she tells me!

Thats a bummer Chad, I'd speak to a few places such as Ierace Automotives, BPT etc, someone must have a std 5.0L crank floating about left over from a stroker build.

Yeah Dave,

They got hold of a crank for bugger all from the dude that does all their cranks, so it's not too bad. They're also doing the work in their own time and doing whatever they can to make the pain as bearable as possible to my back pocket. Alcohol seems to have such great value in times like this.

Not as glad as me Shannon! hehe

I was really hoping to get the wideband lambda and data logger fitted on these couple of weeks off. And the new maf. Head off to work for another 4 weeks so it'll be 10 weeks without driving it by the time I get back next. The good thing is the drags will be back on so I'll be able to get straight into it and see what else I can break. :D
