I just replaced my TFI module with an Accel one (Accel #110-35368) for 85 to 93 mustangs. Car started fine took it for a drive but once it got past 4000 rpm is started popping & surging and felt like a pile of s**t. Went home put the old one back on & it was back to being smooth all the way to redline. So do the tfi modules from the states not work with our set up or did I just get a dodgy module? What module's have people used that work?

Also is the Motorcraft (DY1076 Auto) one from the states the same as what Ford Australia use.

Cheers

After some advice from a guy at Motor Traders, I've just fitted a 6 cylinder TFI module to my EF dizzy (half the price of the V8 version). Yes, it does run OK under normal conditions, but is also breaking down and missing under full throttle. I assumed it was one of my leads or plugs which are causing the problem, but now that Swine is having the same issues, the TFI looks to be the problem.

Can anyone offer suggestions why the 6cyl module shouldn't work so Swine doesn't go and buy one? :)

Mike

Cut the wire off pin 3 and see if it solves it ;)

Apologies to Swine for the thread hijack, but hopefully we can sort his problem also.

So, is this pin 3 wire some sort of rev limiter? Awfully low redline if it is? Thanks for the tip 66. I'll give it a try and let you know.

Went down to the local Ford dealer and got the part # for the module. Same part # as in the states.

FORD
5U2Z-12A297C

MOTORCRAFT
DY1076

$600 here $98 over in the states.

As for the Accel one i might have to try the pin mod above.

Try Motor Traders or REPCO.

The V8 TFI is around $170, the I6 version (which I'm using but not quite sure if it's working right yet) is about $80.
