So I have done the search and read about 10 different threads on converting an el v8 to the more powerful later model au v8.

Im actually looking at putting the 220kw ts50 alloy headed set up into my elxr8.

All of the threads that ive read relate to the au 220kw which is essentially the same beast. They suggest using all of the el wiring and swapping the cam sensor to the el dizzy and placing the AIT in the intake (some suggest tapping it into runner 5). Thats all good, I can do all that.

What I would like to do however, is run it with the ts50 computer, why cant I do that? they are both eecv computers, they should have the same plugs?

There are many many differences between them.
For starters an AU is coil pack and a flea series is dizzy.
AU has the trans controller built into the ECU. Flea series runs a separate unit.
They are in no way interchangeable.

You have to use the entire AU harness basically and if you want smartshield to work you pretty much need to use the column,BEM etc. Otherwise I can flash the smartshield off for you.
Personally I'd just use the E-series stuff with a dizzy.

Has anyone used an aftermarket dizzy, what is recommended?

It seems the easiest way to go is just to use the EL harness and get the computer chipped and tuned to suit the engine.

OK. I'll throw my weight in - Ive just chucked an AU 220 into a BMW.

.. and I know the EF's, and EL's pretty well.

Id go with the AU EEC. seriously. Id probably also start with i6 wiring harnesses so that the extra wiring for the TCM is gone, but thats not essential.

The AU Wiring for the V8 is very similar to the I6 Stuff. one big harness that goes out the front of the car, and a plug that goes to the internal harnesses that carries the Dash Data line, some heater/fan control etc. yeah it will take time, but its totally worth it.

With an AU EEC Controlling my 220, its completely drivable. I dont need to do any fudging of the EGR signals. with an EL EEC Controlling it, it was a PIG. yeah, theres ways around that (Tuning), but especially if you have an AU EEC from the TS50 your pulling the engine from, Id go that. You can also wire up the ESS controls then (use external switches if you have to, or a BA Shifter...)

The Trans control in the AU is much, much, much nicer than the EF/EL.

For making the EEC Work in the EF/EL, I would simply get a TIPerformance J3, and remove the Smartshield security (what I did). Mine is actually running really well on a 185kw XR8 bin at the moment.

I am desperately looking for a 220kw ESS Bin though. Anyone happy to send me one with the def;s?

Cheers

Nigel

I have a mildly modified 220kW in my 95 Mustang running EB S1 V8 electronics and BTR95 trans from the same EB with a shift kit. Tuning mods were limited to dialling in the MAF curve from the Mustang MAF, adjusting the injector slopes, adding thermofan control, deleting emissions gear. Tuned with QH datalogging and wideband, which took maybe 2 hours maximum.

I also have an AU XR8 S3 220kW auto as a daily driver, which is a great comparison.

There is no significant difference in drivablity, engine or transmission wise.

I would do the conversion back to EL V8 hardware and control (which is almost identical to EB V8) and avoid the wiring integration nightmare, and all the unforeseen things.

I agree Nige, The AU EEC is a better animal but it's far easier to stick with the EL stuff if that's what you have. Then use a moates 1/4 horse to dial it in. I'd use a genuine Ford dizzy over the aftermarket ones any day.
