Been saving for ages but I'm now finally going to be doing it. Putting on a new exhaust onto my EL2 XR8. Im going to get Pacie PH4000s with magnaflow high flow cats and magnaflow mufflers with a twin 2 1/4 inch pipes all stainless. The question is should I go for an X pipe or should I leave both sides separated? What's the actual difference in sound / performance?

I was thinking about this top one also from magnaflow. What do you think?

Always x-pipe, or at least balance pipe!

I also didn't know that they made prefabricated X pipes, when I got the ones on my two cars the exhaust shop made them to suit. They looked a little more like 383xd's not like true x's like the magnaflow ones.

They also help with keeping noise down..
X all the way if you're running twin exhausts...

Too bad your not on this side of the country, Woody at Penrith Muffler Man built my exhaust. Asked for quiet at idle (as to not attract attention) but a nice little burble when i hit the go juice.

Pacies, handbuilt "Y" pipe and redback system built to my spec's.

He did a perfect job, I gothim to drive it first so I could hear what it sounded like on the outside, he was very happy with the result, and could tell by the smile on my face that I was happy too.

While talking to the Exhaust guys today they said that "this exhaust will be loud with magnaflow mufflers". Do you guys reckon it would have any chance in hell of being under the legal noise limit which is 90db while stationary (I guess at idle) in SA?

i have walker extractors, twin hi flo's and just 1 supercat muffler, mines not to loud (if you check by a DB meter it might be, but not by much), but i just have a single 2.5 inch system, but if your going a twin 1 muffler should be fine on each pipe, 5.0 litre windsor engines are not as loud as lets say a 5.0 litre holden engine

Should be fine i think, but if ouy really want it under 90 DB then go for whatever they say, but i think mines only sitting at about 93 i think(havn't got it tested tho), when i had 2 mufflers on i got it tested and it sat on 88DB

surely X pipes upset the flow of the gasses? i mean if there flowing and have to cross each others paths? i would of thought a balance pipe would be a better option for better flow and hopefully better performance result!?!

I just don't want to be spending 3 grand on this exhaust only to have it illegal and getting pulled over the first time I drive it and having to get another quieter one put on. Problem is I've heard that the magnaflow mufflers are the best to get. I am gonna ring the exhaust bloke back first thing tomorrow.

mate, you can always add mufflers. don't have to replace the entire exhaust!

Yeah I know. But it's just the whole "get it done right the first time" thing. Plus I don't want the hassle of getting fined / defected etc and then having to get the car checked and them wanting to know about the DBA slotted rotors etc etc. Also I live 300kms from where I'm getting it done so it is another 600km round trip to adelaide and back if I have to get anything else done.

I am getting the extractors ceramic coated, just noticed a picture on the pacemaker website of coated extractors and they looked silver almost chrome so I am going to try and go with that instead of the blue colour if I can. That should look awesome under the bonnet.
