JEEEEESUS!
As said the bearings will be rooted so I'd go for a full rebuild while it's in pieces. You'd think an acid bath would sort it out but if you have access to a gurney I'd try that first to remove the bulk of it.

Go for your life. At least my misfortune can entertain the masses!!

High pressure wash doesn't work. Firstly it has to wash somewhere and I can't imagine the EPA approving of that mix going down a drain. Secondly, it doesn't come off!! The sump should theoretically be the easiest to clean, due to a lack of moving parts or obstructions, but while scooping out the worst of it was possible, the remainder just didn't budge. It simply flaked off in small quantities and made a mess!

Boiling water just sat there, petrol doesn't penetrate and even the guy who cleans the workshop floor had a crack! He brewed up some nastiness that SHOULD shift anything, but it didn't penetrate in the slightest!

Na just check crank journal, rods for wear and roundness..Chances are bore will be fine.. Just new rings and bearings, new timing chain and front timing cover...Thats after a good wash or hot tank....In that case new cam bearings too....

Machinists usually grease up an old cam and throw it in to save the cam bearings during a hot tank.
I'd definately freshen the motor up though.
