I am rounding up bits and pieces for a dash conversion on my ED V8 wagon. I've got my hands on a EF Fairmont dash and console out of a six. My question is, what is the difference with the EECIV and V for the 5.0Ls? Can anyone here with an EF V8 confirm that their ECU has 60pins? Does anyone here have access to a EF V8 ECU pinout diagram?

My thoughts are there is didly squat difference between an ED V8 and an EF V8. All the 'advances' that Ford released(LHM etc) for the EF series were purely for the six. My ECU, 3DFA, will run an EF V8 engine but my concerns are will the EF BEM, Smartlock etc run in harmony with a ED V8 ECU.

EF/EL V8's run a 104 pin ECU.
Smartlock and BEM's won't be an issue - but the EF/EL inst cluster does process raw inputs into a number of datalines, e.g for the trip computer, and climate control - these are also fed to the EF/EL ECU (from memory - I'm pretty sure it's not the other way round) - you won't need to feed these datalines to the ED V8 ECU. You will need to match up the EF/EL dash harness to the ED engine harness and some of the ECU pins.
But otherwise, you should be able to retain your current ECU.

EDIT: The EF/EL ECU Data Output Line (DOL) sends info to the cluster, trip computer and Climate control - it does have a combination of individual data, as opposed to the EB/ED setup, which sends data individually - so you will need to run an EF/EL V8 ECU to run an EF Fairmont dash.

I'm going to try and find a wiring diagram and will scout around for the ECU. I have since realised that EF/Ls have that diagnostic enhanced dash plus a generic tacho that gets its signal from the ECU.Thanks for the quick response mate, much appreciated!
