Just wondering how much work is involved in putting an EL XR8 5L windsor into an AU? If anyone has done it do they have any tips and is it possible to use the original 4-speed gearbox from the AU?

I'm assuming you mean a 6 cyl AU?
I'm thinking that the engine loom would of course have to be changed as well if that is the case, plus ECU etc.

Yeah thats what i thought about the gearbox. Are the engine mounts in similar spots from 6-8 and is there much involved in wiring up the engines sensors and things like to the 6 cyl gear to get it working properly?

And have it sound like a vacuum cleaner.....jks

Legally, it is harder to put a older motor in a newer car, A AU 5L will have better heads, most will have roller rockers of somesort other than series 1...

5L fairmonts are getting cheaper nowadays, it would be easy just to trade up...
