Go the bent 8 mate.
I've got two EF 6s and now I'm hunting for an 8.

I've had my '98 EL since new, and have flogged it HARD daily. Biggest mechanical problem I've ever had was a dead spark plug lead. (well I've have a seised brake caliper, but that's not engine related). Maybe it's because I've got the EL Hybrid 6, but definately no head problems. 125,000KM and counting.

Would I want a vee eight, yes, but after I've tweaked this six to within an inch of it's life.

Head problems usually occur around the 150,000 mark or later

Having worked in a Ford dealership I have seen plenty of I6 with blown head gaskets under 100K in EA-EF, but far more with higher kms.

I could show everyone a NF Fairlane V8 LPG (injection s**t itself years ago) hire car with 700,000km+ and only a water pump replaced on the engine.

My NL drive car has over 550000kms on it and gets given a hard time - but the only failures it has had has been the fuel pump and self leveling suspension leaks. How many I6's can claim that?

All the I6 taxis, do they get engine rebuilds every 200KKM? I think not, they to get half a mil plus Ks on 'em with little trouble. (like to see a commo do that)

Have done plenty of heads on Taxi's. Taxi drivers/owners are the worst to get your money from - here anyway.

Well I have done heaps of heads on I6 taxis, pulling heads off does not increase engine life either, do you know how hard it is to not get debris in cylinders when cleaning the block surface, plus the wear commonly caused by the blown head gasket.......

I'm not saying the I6's are more reliable than the Windors, but they don't exactly fall apart as some of you guys make out.

You are right, but comparing reliability of a I6 vs 5.0L Windsor, there is really no competiton, very few things go wrong with Windsors full stop.

I payed 15k for it as a 3 year old car. it needed a few things done to get it up to scratch but it has been such a good vehicle.

There was an EB taxi that did 1.3 million km's, never had the rocker cover removed.

Thats nice - I can show you 50 E series falcons that never made it over 150k before needing a welded head.
