Just wondering if anyone knows what power can a standard EL XR8 5.0L handle before she goes
bang?
As i want to turbo an el xr6 and will need to rebuild with forgies to get good power, was looking at maybe saving a bit of money by turboing an xr8 if it can handle good power standard.
In newcastle area, any help would be appreciated, people to talk to etc.
Yes i have searched but must not be putting in right key words as cant find the answer.

Not to sure how much power they can handle but you wont need to rebuild the EL XR6 with Forged pistons to get good power. The bottom end of the 6's are good for 300kw's.

Windsor roller blocks are safe to 400HP, generally OK to 450HP unless you are revving it high. With a S/C and 6200rpm limit 450HP should be OK. Best idea is to add a main girdle and then the HP limit increases significantly. I use DSS Racing main girdles and they are advertised as allowing up to 650HP from a roller block.

But the standard rods won't handle 650HP. They max out around 500HP in S/C (not high revving) applications.

Best to ring a workshop that knows what there talking about and who have experience with the windsor 50 blown/ turboed.

Go do some research on Corral forums or theturboforums, you will find a wealth of information there regarding what you want to do.

Theres a bloke on this site with a twin turbo eb v8 that made 270rwkw with two vg30 turbos, thats nearly 400rwhp mate and his engine never let go if they are tuned right they should last along time.

Theres another bloke on fordforums running a stock bottom end 5l with two cheap ebay turbos and he runs 9's and that still lives.

270rwkw is 360rwhp. Also the guy on Ford Forums has put a few holes in the block now.

Yeah because ''nearly'' 400rwhp needs major clarification, and at the level the fordforums bloke was running at you wouldnt expect it to live forever..

I typed what i typed to show what some people have done with an underrated motor that gets next to no mention, i suppose you could listen to forum experst all day long OR you could talk to someone that has expeirence with this motor.

Check what bpt did with the blowzilla, they recon keep revs low and run no more than 10psi and 400rwhp+ is reliably acheivable.

My honest opinion go speak to a workshop/ engine builder and do lots of research.

Tune has alot to do with it too. There is an AU XR8 in QLD with 477rwhp on an unopened motor. Has been running at that level for 3 years

I was the guy who had the VG30 turbo's on a std 5.0..
It would have lasted forever..Or just as long as n/a engine..
No need to rev to make power!!
Keep in mind I had look after the T5 trans !!!

There's NO point in strengthening the rotating assembly on a turbo "roller"
5.0 as the BLOCK is the WEAK point!!
If you run 420 h.p it is a VERY strong and fast engine.. Much much stronger power wise than a
N/A engine with similar power..
Have since built a Dart 330 Iron Eagle block, TKO tranz with 482 rwkw...
