As the title says, I need some rings for my EB 5.0. The last set in NZ sold the day before I phoned. I'm looking for standard bore size moly rings to suit factory (TRW forged) pistons. These run a metric ring pack - 1.5mm 1.5mm 4.0mm. They also run a shallow oil ring set-up.

Does anybody know who sells a reasonably priced set in Aussie? Failing that the stand-by is Summit Racing, but the Kiwi is weak against the Greenback, there is "foreign order processing charge of US$25 plus they like to send via DHL/FedEx etc.

Thanks in advance

Never dealt directly with Rocket, but I've had great dealings with VPW.
Always really friendly on the phone, and got a return call within 5 minutes when they had to double check whether the HE sump I was after was in the warehouse.

I buy from Summit, Jegs, C.P.. Rocket, and VPW.. The rings will cost under $150 for a good set plus $10 postage.. The U.S won't beat that price at such a little order... Esp at 50c to U.S $$$
I have too had issues returning stuff for credit...
It wasn't Rocket though...
You want part # R-9902 / 2m-5523 [std bore] for speed pro rings...

Thanks for all the leads.

I've been emailing Mahle (David Bird) based on the ACL web catalog listing M9106 rings which are listed as being suitable for 1992 onwards 5.0's. After much measuring of piston rings and ring groove depths (my EB and also an old factory EF 5.0 set I had in the workshop), I have been advised that they have no ring suitable. It's the shallow oil ring groove (3.3mm) that causes the problem.

Regarding 2m-5523 and R-9902, these both seem to be 1/16" wide rather than 1.5mm. The piston won't accept a 1/16" ring as it's wider than the ring groove is.

VPW only seem to list Perfect Circle rings. P/N PC-3150020 may be the correct set but there i no info on ring depth.

Summit have given me sealed power p/n E458K. But the only set of these in NZ is +030 which won't work. As a precaution I've ordered 3 sets in the local suppliers next shipment, but that won't arrive until late November or even December.

Does anybody know who stocks Sealed Power parts in Australia?

Thanks again

Yes I have custom pistons, seems I have 1/16 rings...

VPW stock sealed power.
Don't go off their online catalogue, it's a pretty tiny sample of what they have.
If you look at the "brands" section on their website, it lists every brand they stock.
I think they have a downloadable catalogue too now in pdf format which is alot more complete then their online list.
But best to speak to them direct.

Thanks everyone. I think I've found a suitable Hastings ring set down in our South Island. The part number is 2M-4346. I'll also give VPW an email as I still need another couple of sets of rings for some other 5.0 engines I'm soon to re-build.

One thing I've got to say about the 5.0 is how well the engine short blocks wear. This is the second one I've torn down for a re-build and like the previous one, there was basically no bore or crank wear. Even after 400,000 plus k's, less than 0.0005" bore wear and nothing on the crank. All both the short blocks needed were a light hone and crank polish (didn't really even need this, but good insurance just in case I nicked the crank on dis-assembly), rings and bearings.

cheers

Did you by chance sell a 1991 manual 5.0 computer to me through FordForums a few years ago? It was delivered to my non-petrolhead brother in Sydney.

You worked at Morrinsville Dairy Company if I remember right. And I've worked at Waitoa, Morrinsville, Te Rapa and Tatua Dairy Factories over the past 19 years.

You visited NZ and were going to drop round for a beer (I live in Gordonton), but ran out of time.

Or have I got the wrong person?
